An April Trip to Aland to
          Fool Seatrouts

           Tawny's Diary

The First Fishing Day 26.4.

K
ungso is known to be a good area for catching nice size sea trout. In the morning our small group (Me, Pete and Tapani) flyfished wading the eastern bay area. No contacts with trouts.

In the afternoon we fished  by boat  Gottbysund area. Session was lasting about five in the afternoon. The weather was warm and the sky clear and sunny. This day the catch was few, I caught a pike and Ktl a perch. A couple of times a sea trout was spotted either following Ktl’s or Pete’s spoon, but swam away at the last second.

Comment: Some good contacts with seatrouts. Whatever Pete and I made was not enough to catch even a occasional pike. The first humiliation.

The Second Fishing Day 27.4.

The group arrived by boat to Gottbysund and fished from 8:00-11:00. During this time, I caught 3 Ides between the sizes of 1.2-1.8 kg. Pete and Ktl’s combined total catch was 6 pikes, with the largest being about 2 kg. A large sea trout did follow one perch coloured lure, but once again it swam away at the last second.

Tawny and a nice almost two kilos Ide, which hit on greenish spoon.

Hammarudda is one of the best areas to fish for sea trout, however, one requires a special permit to fish in the region. The beautiful location is comprised of several small, atoll islands running parallel to the beach. Here, we fished diligently from 14:00-22:00, but during this time there were only rare sightings of sea trout and did not catch any. Pingo and Robert joined our group at five pm, but still no success, even we had a real specialist flyfishing with us.

Comment: Unbelievable how only one person in the boat catches all the Ides. Me and Pete tried all possible lures and flies, but only contacts or lost fishes. The second humiliation.

The Third Fishing Day 28.4.

Angosund water area is owned by Vidar and is an excellent location for pike fishing. On this day, our group fished with Pingo from about 9:30-12:00. Three pikes under 2 kg were caught while flyfishing from the boat. Pingo caught a 3kg pike using a Storm lure and I had the biggest catch of the day, a 7.5 kg pike, using a Zamin aland coloured lure. As well, the group spotted many pikes hiding in the weeds and swimming in the waters during this time.

The pike, who was first a rock, is almost tired.

A happy fishing lady, Tawny, and her monsterous 7,5 kg pike.

I
n the evening the group, Me, Tapani, Pete and Pingo, fished this beautiful beach area of Trutta’s in Gottby from 18:00-21:00. During this time, there was a sighting of a sea trout by Pete, but no catches.

The men of our group, Tapani, Pingo and Pete, on the bouldery shore of Gottby. Same kind of structure is going on underwater, so the area is difficult to wade.

Comment: This was the final day of humiliation. Pingo should be some kind of specialist in Angosund waters, too, and his biggest pike was less than half of Tawny's monster. Pity, she did not hook the fish with a fly, we could have stayed in Aland longer. Perhaps she would be tiring her fish still.

We went to Aland to fool seatrouts, but this time they fooled us, even Tawny!
