Two hours sliding on new ice. Saku fished with mormuska, I tried with
jigs and colored hooks. Perches were in nice hitting mood. Normal size
lake perches, no really big ones.

Fantastic! Flyfishing season on the sea goes on. Zero temperature and
snowing are no problems, when feet and hands are moving. No trouts
were in the ferryharbour, anyway I caught three perches and fine
experiences. Suddenly high waves began to hit on the shore (some ship
perhaps). I paddled out and hoped that Janne hade done the same or
landed. The waves were in shallow water about two meterd high. They
through Janne to the stones. Web broken Janne crawled to the shore
like a turtle belly boat hanging on his back. And the waves gave
helping pushes. This time we missed the golden evening hour. But
perhaps the sea stays still open!

Me and 5 students of our Institute went fishing to Gylto area to find
new places. The shorefishers caught 17 pikes, the biggest a bit under
four kilos. The boys with belly boats lost time in paddling under
heavy winds. Result only one pike and a big one lost. The return of
200 meters trip took about 50 minutes from fishers with tubes. Anyway
carrying bellyboat makes your upper body stronger.
At the same time in our home waters a new flyfisherman was born. Jens
took a 4,2 kg pike with class 6 equipments.

To the sea at nine o'clock in the morning. The launching ramp in
Teersalo was really icy, lucky, the day temperature smelted most of
ice away. Dull, cloudy day, raining and snowing along the day, chilly
wind. First we checked up a couple of trustworthy perch and zander
places. Result some very small perches. At noon we found perches in
shallow water in front of rushes. About hour and half we we even busy
with 200-400 grams perches. The hit was over at two. Mergansers were
fishing in front of rushes, so at three o'clock we found another hot
spot with nice fishes. Perches were in 1-3 meters. Funny how
shallow! Stories and specialists tell that they should now be in ten
meters, but perhaps perches do not know it. The best lures were white
and brownish grubs. Some perches hit on Koster spoon and balance jigs.
We caught perches a bit under 20 kilos, the biggest ones over 400g. Timo
took two two kilos pikes to eat and released three. Pikes were so
interested in white grubjigs, that Timo had to give some to them (unvoluntarilly,
they broke the line).

Nice size jigging perches from Velkua.

The Top Season Goes On!
last week was raelly easy working as fishing guide I'd say unique
working! This time it was easy to fullfill the hopes of my guests.
Both salmons and trouts have been in real hitting mood and served
excellent fights. Perhaps the water temperature, still in + 6
centigrades, holds fishes really active. Family Groth bought a
fishing trip to their father as 60th anniversary present. It took
about half an hour when the rod bowed first time. Twenty minutes nice
fighting and then he landed a first class 8 kilos salmon. The hit was
on all day long, everyone of the party had possibility to fight with a
nice fish.

Micke Granath came on board once again and once again he had a
excellent fishing day. In the afternoon we found a school of fishing
seagulls. Under the school we had 5 fishes on at the same time! The
fights and the mess was incredible, but finally we succeeded to land
four of the fishes. Christer Johansson and his mates had a nice
fishing day, too, with several big landed fishes.
The average catch on my trips has now been six fishes per fishing day.
The average weight has been over five kilos. Almost every day we have
caught at least one salmon or trout over 8 kilos. There are left still
some free places to my fishing trips before Christmas: 15- 17-18- 20
or 21st december.

MarkkuR as reporter
again this weekend I was fishing too far away. The students of our
Instutute were fishing from shore in Parainen. The chauffeur, Parre,
caught a seatrout 40 cm and lost another.

Tapsa P guided us to the hot spots of Karjaariver. In Pitkalarapids
the waterlevel was good- perhaps still better for summerfishing. We
caught there only one 33 cm trout. One fisherman found a 35 cm
grayling and Tapsa some smaller ones. About two weeks ago they had put
some rainbows in town area. Tapsa had three rainbows and I got my xmas
fish, a rainbow, and a nice 43 cm trout.

Me and Ari went flyfishing pikes with warbananas (= belly boats) to
the area near by the Institute. Our results were quite poor, only
eight pikes and not a one over two kilos. It is possible to fish with
belly boats even long periods in cold, under five centigrades water,
so good are modern clothings. Fishing with belly boat is the real
SPORTfishing, my thighs were totally finished after paddling with them
three kilometers.

Pingo
Stig Husell fished seatrouts from boat west of Mariehamn town.
He caught four fishes in short time, three about two kilos and one
smaller. Not bad?
