5 zanders of which 2 over 37 cm, 35 perches (the biggest 540g) and 1 pike. The fishes weighted all together10,5 kg.

Pena and Antero

The match Balance-Vertical jigs ended to Pena's balance jigs 9-4, only legal size zanders were accepted. A lot of small zanders.

Peimari 26.2.
ktl and Vaiski

Driving by car on the ice and checking old hot spots of Peimari. In the morning two small zanders and some hits. At noon we changed to perch fishing. Till 1 o'clock pm about 20 fishes, the biggest ones near 400 g.

Zanderfishing at the worst hit time of the day from 10am to 13 pm. 7 zanders of which 2 legal size, the biggest  44 cm. some perches and roaches.

In the morning I tried to catch big perches on the western side of Granvik, but no results. Later I concentrated on smaller ones, which I had about 3 kilos. The depth was under 6 meters. I fished with small balance jigs, and I had to drill a lot of holes.

95 cm of ice, 25 empty holes was enough as training today.

KariA and Kake

We had to seek zanders, finally we found them. I had  9 pcs (the biggest 850 g) and Kake 14 pcs. Half of the zanders were legal size. At about noon we found a nice school of 200 - 500 g perches. We both caught about 15 kg bags of perches to make files

From the afternoon four o'clock till the evening nine o'clock fishing burbots in one of the best oldtime places. Now the result was: Pena two fishes, Antero one and ktl total NF, not even a slightest push.

Karuna, Peimari 20.2.
Ktl and Petrus

Seeking zanders and perches. Really poor results: both had about ten small perches, Petrus caught a minor zander and ktl had 99% sure zander hit. All the other fishermen fished empty holes, too.

HannuR, Sampo, Reiska, Miia and Aapo

Burbotfishing17.30 - 21.30. First hour and half it was quiet and from 19 to 21 some fishes were moving. I had a 1.2 kg male and  4 Frog ssize smallies, Reiska 5 smallies, Aapo 3 and Sampo had more experiences. I lost again a nice size fish under the hole. We have to try again because I have burbot caviar only 200g. That is not much, soup material I have enough.

Burbotfishing from the afternoon to 20 o'clock. Väiski and Timo came later and fished an hour more. All others NF's, but Timo had a small one and female 1,75 kg.

Icefishing in Hummelholm area. We tried four underwater hills, but all were empty, or perches were not hungry. The result was five perches and two sculpins.

Burbotfishing is a strange hobby, it takes you as all. We have now winter holiday at the Institute, but some of the students stayed here and not travelled home, because the burbot season is on. We have had nice winter evenings in good company and with quality fishing. Even I have had problems to stay at home. I have forced myself now to be a fatherat home, too, because I had in friday my 3.0 kg record burbot. This is enough for this season. We fished from 21-01 o'clock, not anymore so seriously. We grilled sausages in a small camping grill and had nice time in winter night. Of course Pia had two burbots and Olli one.

Burbotfishing from 17.30 to 21.00 o'clock. 1,1 kg female and 1,45 kg male + 5 frog size fishes. Two nice size fishes I lost under the hole, and a lot of happenings. All the fishes I caught with burbot drag, some with bait, some without. The spawning is on, so many fishes are moving now. Two fishermen caught with robber spoon 15 and 30 fishes.

Säkylä , Pyhäjärvi 16.2.
Iiro, Tommi and Saku

We tried to find whitefishes, but no success. At the end of the day we fished two hours perches. The result was nice 12 kilos.

KariA, Kake, Jukka and Pepe

Zanders were in the hitting mood, Kari 25 pcs, Kake 15  pcs, Jukka 12  pcs and Pepe 8  pcs. Every third was legal size, the biggest one had  Kake 800 g. Fishes were in 7 - 8 meters. The absolutely best lure of the day was Nils Masters balance jig with brown back, long shank treble hook and a fish eye as bait. Jukka and Pepe caught their bags full of 200 -500 g perches  fishing in 4 - 5 m. In the evening we tried to fish burbots in Teijo. The only happening had Kake, about 2 kg burbot was hooked in the middle. Three of us messed the show and failed to lift the fish from the hole.

Rymattyla, Roola 15.2.

The men from the lake-area came to learn icefishing in salty water. Everyone learned new tricks and caught fishes, too. Sculpins we caught over ten pcs. Perches were in the hitting mood here and there, but no real schools were found. We caught about 6 kilos fishes, the biggest one over 400 g. In the early evening one hour of learning burbot fishing but NF.

Burbotfishing from 21.00 to 24.00 o'clock. Now I was a student and the youngtres teachers. I caught only one 0,7 kilos fish and some relly tiny ones. Tapsa took up three fishes and found some now swimming routes of burbots. He lost a nice fish, too. Kati, 16 year old girl, took a female 2,1 kg burbot and lost a huge one, when the line went broke. The fish almost took the whole girl in the hole, when the fight was on.

Checking up burbot places. Lenholm gave nf to all of us. Southern parts of Djupsundet was better. Vaiski 2.2 kg female fish, the very first one of his life, Petrus 800g male, Ktl frog size male and Hannu nf.

Three more evenings fishings burbots with Fishing Institue students in groups 3-9 persons. In sunday there was only minusdegrees, and the worst fishing till now. Statistics: Sun MR NF otherst 3 pcs, The biggest one 1.5 kg. Mon: MR 1 , others 5 pcs, biggest 1.7 kg. Tue MR 4 pcs max 1.6 kg, others 3 pcs. Wed MR 2 pcs, others 3 max  1.1 kg.
We are still fishing with baits, because in our group there is some beginners, too. I lost in wednesday 6 fishes, because I had tuned my baitfish wrong. in monday and tuesday we caught female fishes, too. Both males and females are still hard, this means the spawning is not totally on. Perhaps next week will be the hot time.

Dragsfjard, Olmos 12.2.

Fishing from 8 to 16 o'clock. Perches were in surpringly shallow water, 2-6 meters. A lot of small fishes, which we put back. Fishes to take with, 100-300 g, took Kari about14 kg and ktl 9 kg. Balance jigs were hot machines, the best color was Nis Masters in the picture. The big jigs were better than small ones, even  30 g perches hit on 7 cm Nils Master. Red-orange-yellow colored hook was better than green-orange-yellow. The weather was perfect like late springtime.

First perchfishing by the Marskar island, almost no happenings. Then to the Seamark shallow, whre we caught ten kilos perches 100-500 gr, 4 pcs  -37 cm zanders and one roach.You can drive by car on the ice.

Perchfishing from 10 to 15 o'clock. About 10 kg 100-400g fishes and a minor zander. The wind was from sout-southwest and got harder along the day. Almost all the fishes with vertcal jig with colored treble hook and maggots as baits. Only a few fishes per hole.

Velkua, southern area 9.2.
Ktl, Markku, Petrus and Vaiski

Driving by car on ice about 6 km. First hole was drilled at 11.00 o´clock. Perches hit in 5 - 10 m depth, pitty, they were mostly small ones. Balance jigs were hot today. Everyone caught several kilos of fishes. Vaiski had his first icefished perches in his life. Markku had two small zanders with a vertical Pyry-jig.

Parainen, Granvik 8.2.

Perchfishing in southwestern side of Granvik. Two first places gave nothing, in third there were fishes in the hitting mood. Thes fishes were on a 8-10m underwater hill. Till noon I caught 9 kg perches with selfmade balance jig. Biggest ones were 300-400 g. Quite a lot I lost in the under part of the hole, because I had only 4 inches drill with me. The weather was foggy, ice  45cm and spots of snow on the ice.

At three o'clock in the afternoon I had in my bag only ten perches. By accident I drilled a hole in  1,5 m water, and immediately my rod bends. From this hole about twenty fishes100 - 300 g. I thought that I have been a idiot. THE FISHES ARE IN SHALLOW  WATERS! Bombing the shallow waters gave results. Finally I had 13 kg perches in my bag. Of course now I can say that you are not always so wise as you think.

Five hours of burbot fishing in a group of four guys. Sami thought he has a giant on, but finally it was a 1,4 kg fish hooked in the middle. My own 1,7 kg fought like abull, it was hooked behind the front fins. More and more the spawning is on. With bait-jigs only 9 fishes up.

The yougsters of the Fishing Institute are having a right touch on burbot fishing. In Thursday 4 kids had 10 fishes.
In Friday I was there, too. Lucky me, I caught the biggest ones 2.2 and 1.9 femalefishes. All together we had 12 burbots. Now the small males are following the big mamas. Weather 17 centigrades and clear starlight sky.

The weather like yesterday.. Now we caught more fishes, perhaps the fishing calendar (Solunar) tells the truth. I caught 4 burbots, biggest ones 2,1 and 1,7 kg. The others caught fishes, too.

Turku and Luonnonmaa 5.2.
ktl, Pena, Antero, Seppo and Marko

In the morning Pena and Antero checked up the Kuuvannokka area zander situation. Only small perches found.

In the afternoon ktl, Seppo ja Marko came to Latonpaa, where to Pena and Antsu had moved, too. Everyone caught some perhes, so nobody had NFs. The maestro was Pena with some nice 300-400 g perches fished with balance jig.

Three hours in freezing wind trying to catch burbots. The catch: one 1,5 kg female fish. I myself had NF.

Nikolai, Anu and Pasi

Perchfishing. Small fishes were found all over on the shoreline slopes, about in 5-8 meters depth.. Fihes to take with about 15 per man ann a bit less per woman. Green backed 8 cm Nils Masters balance jig worked fine with a triple colored hook in green-yellow-orange.

Can the wind be problematic? Of course there is some use of wind, too, I thought, when I second time in row run after my plastic sledge. When wind is blowing, the lines hold straight with no messes. Even if it was windy, almost stormy weather, we caught some fishes to eat. Pepe's vertical jig, made by himself of teaspoon, was number one tool. Pepe's catchbag had in the evening 10 kilos of fishes, seven legal size zanders and perches, of which the biggest one was 500g. Kake's bag was 7 kg, one legal zander. My bag had 10 perches and one zander, 2,4 kg. Jukka one zander and 10 perches. Minor zanders we caught 5 pcs.

Fishing burbots in the evening. We caught 7 male fishes a bit over and a bit under one kilo each.

Two hours icefishing. Bude caught 4 perches.

In the morning the temperature freezing  -22. We started near the seamark of the shipyard: about ten perches, the biggest ones 350 g. At noon the weather changed: heavy wind, snowing, the temperature about  -10 centigrades. All the underwater hills gave some occasional perches. Mostly the shallow waters were populated by "pretty faces" (Fourhorn Sculpins). Apparently they were gathered there for spawning. No contacts with zanders.

           
           Kari is thinking, if they have hot rom on Silja Line.
