Ikaalinen, Poltinrapids 30.6.
TomiL

This time the fishes were dayactive even if it was a clear and warm day. At 12 a rainbow 1,2 kg and an hour later a silvery trout 48cm/1,5kg. It had wandered up from the lake to eat bleaks. Both fishes with Gray Zonker. Later in the evening a rainbow 1,0kg. Pitty, it was hooked on the adipose fin. Some natural born 20-30 cm trouts promised a good future to this river.

Merikarviariver 27.6.
IiroO

I went fishing in the evening for a couple of hours, when the weather was nicely cloudy. I landed 4 rainbows, but lost my 0,16 mm larvatippet. It is now hanging on a jumping machine's jaws. The best fish of the evening was anyhow a 40 cm grayling. Larvas are now hot flies! All the fishes C&R.

Turku, Pitkasalmi 27.6.
Ktl,
Petski and Pauli

Two hours jigging zanders in the evening under black thunderclouds.  Petski caught two minors with green Storm shad.

Merikarviariver 27.6.

and friends

Eveningfishing between coffee drinking and grilling sausages. I caught three rainbows with small larvas under the fast white waters. Fishes were afraid of bigger flies. In nightfishing bigger flies are ok. Rainbows took best size  12-14 flies. The flow is now nice eight cubics in second.

Latokartanonkoski 27.6.
OlliT
and Tapsa

Fishing in Latokartanorapids. Four hours of fishing gave a lot of different fishspecies:Bleaka, roahes, perches, vimbas, a tench, breams and seven rainbowtrouts 0,5-1,5 kg. Tapsa caugjt two and I five. All the fishes were released. Leeches were once again the best flies. I tested larvas, too, and caught one rainbow. It was importatnt to get flies deep enough. A heavy rainshower forced us to seek shelter in the car.

Intermediate report: Till now eight landed salmons. The best flies have been  Mar Lodge, Ramilokki (= green variation of Mar Lodge) and Sarvijaakos (=greenish shrimp imitations). Water level really low!

Karkkila, Pitkalarapids 21.6.

JSeeking for the midsummerfish. Water (+16c) was in low level and clear. In the morning only one happening, which gave to me a nice midsummerrainbow.

Latokartanonkoski 16.6.
OlliT

The licence began at 18.00, The first two hours gave vimbas, perches and bleaks. At ten o'clock even rainbows started to hit, three landed and two lost ones. The best fly was bead head orange tailed Leech. You had to cast upstream and serve the fly with the flow. One rainbow was 800 g and double 1.5 kg. The water level was perfect for fishing.

Fishing zanders. In the early evening flyfishing 12 zanders, of which only one was legal size. After 23.00 two hours of trolling. Four fishes, of which two legal size, the bigger exact two kilos. The hot lure was Rapala Original.

Kynasriver 14.-15.6.
MarkkuR

Every fisherman had quiet time, because the water level was really high. My licence gave two under one kilo rainbows. These C&R fishes I caught both days , when I started fishing.Too much selfconfidence left me without hometaking fishes.

Askainen 12.-13.6.
MarkkuM

Two days fishing alone zander. 45 fishes to take with (40+ cm) and about five times so many smallies. One fish 1,5 kilos, others basic size.

Kynasriver, the Qualification Competition of Finnish Championships in Flyfishing 5.-8.6.
MarkkuR
and members of  LSUK fishing club

In thursday, when we were practising, the fishes were very co-operative. Saku landed over ten rainbows. The eight cotestors of our club took it more calmly.  Vaararapiod was the place we learned best
. I had there one raibow and three legal size graylings, pitty, a bit outside the competition area.

In the first period  I had my first ever official competition fish, a rainbow 54 cm, with which I won this period. I even lost three fishes in this period.

Of the Team SFM  Vyrtsi and OlliT won their periods in Vaararapid. In saturday evening me and Jouni were placed 5th and 6th. In sunday we both had NF. My problem was too light flies. LSUK club members had a even competition, all placed 7-15 of 31 participants.

, Seppo, Pertsa, Ahti, Jari, Ari, Juha and Risto

Rivers were filled with water after heavy rains.Jari had four and Ari two trouts with wobblers, Juha flyfished one trout.  Pertsa got with fly two rainbows and Ahti a nice one kilo id. Rest of the group had only contacts with trouts and, of course, perches, roaches and pikes.

Boston, Moon Island 8.6.
JakeK

The result of two hours of fishing was two minor stripers with # 2 chartreusse/white  Half & Half. This time the water level was really high, and the place looked out totally different as earlier. In the places where you last could wade with rubber boots, this time only your cap had floated on the surface. The weather was rainy, I wish the summer comes soon here, too!

Nautelarapids 8.6.
JaniO

I decided to make my eveningwalk in Nautelan, talking about eveningwalk I mean, that equipment was running shoes and a flyrod. The waterconditions are now in my opinion perfect in Nautela. A bit difficult the fishing is anyhow, when you do not hava waders on. Rubber boots would already help a lot. Some hot spots Icould fish, and saldo was a good fight with a trout, but lost it. On the same footsteps I got three nice trouts, 40,42 and 43 cm. I have never in my life caught three legal size trouts on the same footsteps, and perhaps never will. In Nautela there are a lot of hatching insects, and the water temperature is perhaps optimal for trouts ( I think so, because the trouts fought really good.)

USA, Boston 5.6.
JakeK

Again I seeked new fishing place in Boston area. This time I had with Jack Gartside's book Flyfishing in Boston Harbour. I choosed one place from the book and drove 15 miles and 1.5 hours in traffic mess. The weather was rainy and the ebb was high. Waders on and let's go!

I waded along the shoreline casting every now and then. After two hours and 3 kilometers I got a bit frustrated. A new fly on the leader, a white # 2 deceiver, though the darkness was falling. In my flybox were no black streamers, which could please my eyes. So it was white now. Casting a while and then a hit. Of course my Berkley's lipgripper was down under in my bag. The only possibility was to wade slowly to the shore, I was about 50 meters out. Nice fight and finally a nice size striper showed its sides. Just by the shoreline the fish put on a real jumping show and took out line like a train. And I tried to hold the line tight. Of course just by my feet the leader broke in the middle. On the bottom there were a lot of shellfishes and they broke the leader. Anyway I had decided to release my first striper this year. Luckily I got hold on the fish and landed it. The fly away, some photos and  refreshing the fish and releasing it. There it went! I felt really good, and the feelings got even better when I opened a tin of finnish Karhu beer. That I brought with me when last time visited Finland, and I had saved it for the first fish of this year:-).

Askainen 7.6.
Ktl, Kauko and Lassi

Five hours learning jigging in the best zander places. And they learned: Ten legal size fishes plus a lot of smallies. White-chartreusse, yellow and chartreusse were the hottest colors.

Lassi had at his best a zander with four casts in the row.

Askainen 4.-5.6.
OskuG, Mikko and Pasi

We began fishing in wednesday at 9 o'clock in the evening and fished actively till 2.30 in the night. Then we had an hour break and went on fishing till half past five. Legal size fishes only 11, minors about eight time so much. The biggest one 900g (Mikko). At five o'clock there was a good hit on, but we had to go home. All grub colors gave fishes, but yellow and motor oil were hottest.

Kemijoki
HarriM

There are now quite a lot seatrouts in the river. I have rowed two weeks and caught seatrouts (1,3 and 2,1 kg) plus a salmon 2,5 kg. The flow is strong, and already in the beginning of May the first fishes ran up to the  Isohaara power dam. The biggest seatrout now caught was 6,3 kg. Now we are waiting salmons to run into the river. They can be size up to twenty kilos. 6-8.6 in Kemijoki there will be arranged Lohigames harling contest. The winner gets with the biggest salmonidae  2.000 euros

Simojoki
HarriM

The flow has been good, and water temperature is optimal salmons to run into the river. Traditionally we wait salmons to come in the middle of June. Some fishes has already shown themselves in the river. The main schools with huge salmons are still waiting in the sea. I have caught one fish with lure: a  5,03 kg pike. That was good to take it away from the river. A pike eats hundreds of small salmon babies. I hope fishing gods remember me now. A nice salmon would be excellent price for my good deed.

Askainen 4.6.
Ktl, Markku, Jaska and Janne

Six hours of jigging zanders in the evening. Over twenty legal size (37 cm) fishes, of which we took 13 over 40 cm with. Now there are too many smallies, only every eighth was legal size. Markku had the biggest one: 1,89 kg, 61 cm. Berkley's 4"  grubs in colors glow and white/chartreusse plus traditional grubs chart with silver flakes and 3 " yellow pearly were hot lures.

Fishing zanders in the near by Salo sea-area. We started at 20.00 and fished two hours. I caught with flies 4 zanders, but only one was legal size (40 cm). Ari had with yellow grub jig zanders 1.4 kg and  1.1 kg plus one exact legal 37 cm.

Six hours of fishing. About 40 legal size zanders, every fifth was legal. White was the best color.

Pomarkku, Kynasjoki 31.5.-1.6.

In friday evening the waterlevel was still high, but went down till sunday evening about 30 cm. We had the qualifying contest of our fishing club. Five contesters tried to reach our flyfishing team for Finnish Championships. We were not fishing the hottest rainbow spots, this you can read in results. The only rainbows were Vyrtsi's 58 cm and my 54 cm. My fish was not accepted, because my second fly in leader was not barbless. Second and third place were won with graylings.

Pomarkku, Kynasjoki 31.5.-1.6.

, Jori and Antti

Flyfishing Kukonkoski rapid area with 24 hours licence. Water was already 15 centigrades and going down. We concentrated in fishing rainbows, which this time was not easy. We had few fishcontacts and landed fishes were even fewer. Jori was the one who caught something: a 1,5 kg rainbow, which took light streamer. I had one same caliber fish on but I lost it. We even woke up in the morning at four o'clock, but no more happenings. Camping in nature is always a refreshing experience, though fishes are passive.
