Parainen, Kirjala 28.-30.11.
MarkkuR the reporter, students of Fishing Institute fishing

I think I went too far to fish this weekend. Our homewaters gave nice fishes. Vesa Toivanen, 17 years, took a flyfished, 9.4 kilos pike just on the opposite shoreline of our Institute. Some weeks ago he caught here a  4,55 kg zander, his record. Some other nice big pikes were caught, too. Jussi Siivari fought with and landed in friday with 5.1 kilos flypike.

We went to test the northwestern waters of Mossala in a group of five students of our Institute. We had clearly in our thoughts the two seatrouts, which Nikola landed in Aland. We found excellent looking places, some were like a flyfisherman's dream. You could easily wade and flyfish the shallow shoreline waters, even from a island to next one, and they are very stony waters. Only the seatrouts were missing.

The stony waters of Mossala look like perfect seatrout places, perhaps the fishes do not

Pingon Tobis and other seatrout flies fished about 30 under 2 kilos pikes. When the bigger fishes hit you could only hear a smack and you had an empty leader. We saw even a seal!

In saturday I flyfished with Torsten seatrouts. Mild western wind, waves only 20 cm and the sun was shining! Finally light! We fished from 13.00 to 15.00, excellent seatroutfishing! the result was two landed fishes and two more on, but lost. These runaways show to us fast jumping series and splashing water surface. No wonder they got loose. The water temperature is only 5 centigrades, but these torpeedos still fight like fools. I had a gang of 5-6 trouts following my fly, but not a one tried to bite the fly. They came just to the shoreline and then turned and went away.

Tolle fished in sunday. The weather was foggy and wind blowed from south 8 m/s. He caught in an hour and half two seatrouts. He lost two fishes, too! I wonder, why we loose now so many fishes, but that is fishing!

Fishing seatrouts from 11.00 to 15.00o'clock. One 48 cm fish landed, another followed and one tailed behind the boat.

In the evening we were sure, that thursday will cahange all, so good was the weather. But the night changed all, the morning was foggy and wet and  the wind blowed chilly. We fished from eight to eleven o'clock. Not a bite, on ly two tailing fishes too far away.

Eckero 26.11.
Ktl, Nikolai, Pete and Osku

Fishing the finest seatrout waters of Finland quided by Pingo. Wawes were over one meter hihg and water temperature + 4,7 centigrades. Some good contacts. Pingo had a trout on at four jumps, but lost it. Pete saw an over five kilos fish swimming in shallow water. Nikolai was again the Lucky Looser with one trout, the fish took Orange Zonker. Today we have to eat fried trout once again.

The bushes on the shore were every here and there like a orange berry sea. With Orange Zonker Niku took his seatrout number two.

Hammarudda 25.11.
Ktl, Nikolai, Pete and Osku

Pingo and Uffe quided us in these fine seatrout waters. A lot of hits and following fishes. Nikolai caught a 51 cm fish with Pingo`s Toby fly. His first ever with fly in the sea.
Cloudy day, no rain. The wind turned from southeast to west. In gusts over 10 m/s.

The first flyfished seatrout of his life makes Nikolai to smile just a bit.

Trying to catch seatrouts with flies and lures. The wind was between south and southwest, changing direction and blowing 4-6 m/s. Water temperature was 5,4-5,7 centigrades. One following fish and one on in a spoon, but went away after a nice jump. This was the story this time, I hope next time better!

             The places were excellent!

Seatroutfishing was really good in last weekend, though hard winds made fishing difficult in friday. Torsten Fredriksson fished then between one meter high waves in Eckero. First he had four hits, but the fishes were not properly hooked. Then he faught some minutes with two fishes in row, but lost both jumping machines.

A friend of mine fished from boat in the western parts of Mariehamn. He had two seatrouts on, too, but lost them just beside the boat.

Robert Ekstrom fished saturday with two of his guests in Hammarudda area. In a small bay they caught in a short time three 2 - 2,5 kilos seatrouts.

Probably in this weekend trouts were not  in the real hitting mood, because so many fishes were lost. Anyway, now there are a lot of seatrouts in Aland waters.

Morningfishing before working day. I checked up the places in an hour. Saldo again NF (No wonder!). Some morning I have to do this again even if it tastes a bit boring to cast into empty sea.

Is it possible that there is no seatrouts in a place like this? Photo JaniO

Rain made not fishes active. Fishing two hours in Piinukoski gave to me one rainbow. VP got one, too, and JP lost one. The afternoon in Holma area was quite quiet, too. The only contact I had, broke the leader, when hit on a epoxy headed leech. JP caught a rainbow and lost two. In the morning we saw when a 4.1 kg searun trout was landed.

Ruissalo 16.11.
Jani NF Ollikainen

Again trying to catch seatrouts in Ruissalo. The wind was a bit too hard for pleasant flyfishing. Water temperature was in + 5 centigrades. Not a sign of trouts or other fishes. The place looks still very promising, so I have to go back at least once again. I believe, that if I try hard enough one day I will succeed. There were some other believers, too, trolling this area. Next time, perhaps...(I'll be lucky?)

Whitefishes had mostly swam back to the sea! Still in tuesday the river had been full of these delicacies, now only some few fishes were there. Luckily all of us got rainbows. Ali G (Osku) took the biggest fish (about two kilos) with green Zonker.

Fishing perches from early morning till late evening. Balance and vertical jigs with fisheye as bait were the best lures, specially Nautilus vertical and Nils Masters balance. Some fishes were caught with grub jigs, too. A catching system was balance jig fished with casting rod. We had to low down our standards to get fishes to eat, too. Medium size, which we took was about 150 g, and no fishes over 250 g were caught. Results were checked up, while fileting the fishes, the biggest one 340 g, a bit over ten fishes over 250 g and clean files about 3,5 kilos.

Our skipper was Don Guide, when we were chasing seatrouts in Purunpaa area. The wind had turned from southeast to north, which did not give very big hopes of fishes. Still we caught three seatrouts 41-50 cm. The big one had eaten baltic herrings and one smal sandeel. Two small ones we released. The best lures were lightened spoons: JK in color purple with black back and selfmade (PK) purple-blue spoon.

They caught in friday from Lankoski a 3,6 kg whitefish! Salmons have run up to Lankoski, too. Fishermen have seen many of them. It really helps the fishing situation, when waterlevel gets higher...

Turku, Ruissalo 9.11.

Trying to flyfish seatrouts. I found places, which even were smelling trouts. Still my saldo was only a roach and a perch. I will fish these places soon again.

Three whitefishes (searun)  50-55 cm with peacock herl nymphs. Nine rainbows, too. Small flies are still hot. There is a lot of fish in the river!

Fishing in the weekend was difficult, the waves in Eckero were about 1,5 meters high. When the sea is like that many days, seatrouts do not come to the shoreline to eat. Now the weather and sea are perfect, but I have to work...

Saturday I met three swedish fishermen, who had caught a 1,3 kilos seatrout. In  Eckero area they have caught alot of rainbows in 2-5 kilos class. Heavy winds have broken some fishfarm nets and there are now refugees all around.

Our fishing club had a weekend camp with  15 persons. Some of us know these waters perhaps too well, and some were there first time. My and JP's boat members concentrated on perch fishing. We had a lot of bites, fishes were hanging on tails of grubs. Pity, the medium size was quite poor. The size to cook soup we got nicely, but the size to fry on the pan not so many, perhaps some tens of pcs- not a one perch over half kilo. Our boats were a bit too small to fish pikes in heavy winds. Mostly we enjoyed the sea life and good company.

Kasnas 1.11.

Fishing seatrouts south of Kasnas. No fishes... we were not perhaps lucky enough. The weather was ok and the the places looked like trouts. The water was + 6 centigrades.

Fishing all day long till darkness fell. In the morning with jigs about thirty perches. We tried to find pikes in different and various places and with all kind of lures, but very quiet. We caught about ten smallies and lost one really huge one. The brake in multiple reel was almost totally on, still the fish took out four five meters line and went away. This fish gave to me trebbling knees. Smallies we caught mostly with tiger colored Zalt and Zam wobblers.
