Now they are here. My friend Ola Sundberg caught
in sunday a about 2 kilos seatrout with Deluxe Shrimp
fly. Ola fished with intermediate line.

Bo Tholix caught with rod and reel a 4 kilos trout.
The lure was blue-black-silver Haxa-spoon. Earlier
last week Bo lost 3 seatrouts. The fishes are now
active in evenings!
The season is on now!

The morning hit time was
nice, we caught about8 kilos perches, the biggest 500
g. Mostly the fishes were caught with motor oil
colored grubs. Pikes were not in the hitting mood,
some we caught with flies, one with Zalt and one with
Mullet wobblers. Went home at 14.00.

Journalists learning how to jig perches. First in the
morning looking in theory different jig models and their
rigging. At noon to the sea and practical fishing. Water
was still warm (about +10 centigrades) and
the color was troubled, no good streams in narrow places.
Perches were not in large schools, we found only
small gangs here and there.
All the students passed the maturity test. They caught
all together some tens of perches. Pity the biggest ones
were only 300 g. Brown and green motor oils grubs
worked. Yellow was the hottest color of the evening.
Not a so small bunch of student that all do like told.
Some small pikes were landed, some pikes broke the lines.
Three students caught against the rules of perch jigging
school zanders. Legal size zanders were caught 5 pcs.
The biggest troublemaker was Antti with two zanders, the
bigger one 50 cm and 1,3 kg.

Troublemaker Antti and 1,3 kg
zander, which took yellow 5 "
grub.

First some perches and then a flyfished 5,5 kg pike. The
wind was heavy like an enemy, but calmed down, when the
rain fell. Pike were in the hitting mood.

I spent the weekend hunting eagerly false albacore in Rhode
Island waters. I woke up saturday and sunday at 5
o'clock and drove to Jerusalem. I was on West
Wall braekwater at six. The idea of fishing was simply
to hold your fly in the water and wait the albacores to
come. You can find them coming easily, but they are so
fast, that you have no time for casting. So you have to
hold the lines in water. Fast stripping is the second
basic idea in this fishing. The faster you strip the
more the fishes get interested in your fly. I feel now
in my shoulders and back, that I made some casts.
Fishing was once again like all this year long. I spoke
with a local fisherman, who checks up this place every
morning. The season should be on, the time was perfect
and the place is one of the top spots in this area. The
albies are late this year, he has not seen a tail of
fishihes yet this year! They come when they come.
All together this weekend and 14 hours of fishing gave
to me only one broken rod tip and a wet mobile telephone.
They say this model is waterproof, but it was not so. It
is not fun when the tide comes so fast that you have to
swim to the shore :-).

A short report of our teams fishing in this competition:
Our team Vesipossut (Water Piggies) of West Coast
Flyfishing Club has participated in many competitions
earlier.
Team Kalle Auramaa, Nikolai Holttinen (SFM) ja Iiro Ojala
(SFM)
The first session we fished in Kukonkoski pool three.
Nobody of us had fished here earlier. The place gave
some promises when we looked at it. The water level was
low, but in lower parts of the pool there was a good
strem with deeper water. The catch: kolmosessa. Kukaan meistä ei aikaisemmin ollut
kalastanut ko. aluetta. Paikka näytti kuitenkin heti
lupaavalta. Vaikka vesi oli erittäin matalalla kuului
pooliimme kovavirtainen ja syvä loppuliuku. Saalis:
Kalle 2 , Nikolai 3 and Iiro 3 rainbows. At the end of
session I tried to fish graylings, too. I caught eight
of them, but all were a bit under minimum. A excellent
start in competition!
The second session we had in pool fourteen in Kynaskoski.
everyone thought, that this should be one of the top
pools, but nobody caught fish in this pool. After the
first day we were on the top in the ranking, five points
ahead the next team.
The first session of sunday we fished again in Kukonkoski,
but pool seven. When I saw the pool, I knew we will have
a difficult time of two hours. Kalle lost a rainbow and
Nikolai had agood hit. NF and a medal was now only a
dream..
Our last session was in Kynaskoski pool twelwe. All
teams had had adifficult day, so we had some hopes to
take amedal. A bit we were worried, when heard that the
team, who had fishes this pool before us was Keuruu FFC,
a top team. They had one fish in this pool. Our captain
Kallesent me to the lower parts and told to fish like
never before." Be a magician take some fishes"
I put as tippet 0,14 mm and tied on some small 10-14
flies. About at the tenth cast the line moved a bit,
strike and I had a fight on. My feet were trbbling when
I landed the fish in my net. A rainbow
39 cm. The moment was happy and more was to come.
Nikolai handled with all his skills a second 39 cm
rainbow. This was one of the finest sessions I ever have
fished. Two fishes took us by the leadeing team Virrat
with five points. The Team Vesipossut is now Finnish
Champions

In the morning perches were in really crazy hitting mood
in the bridge area. We made file two three litres
kettles full of. Biggest ones 400-500 g. Grubs were hot
lures. In the evening with jigs quite quiet. With living
bleaks as baits about 30 nice fishes over 300 g. Jarno
had a pike 1,2 kg and Ahti 1,0 kg with perch colored
Professor spoons.

In the morning a fast visit to Karvionkoski of
Heinavesi. Water level low, only possible places
to fish were in the upper parts of the rapid and under
the bridge. I had fished about three minutes, when I
found, that my fly was hanging on the bottom. A bit
forcing with rod and the reel gave a nice voice.
The bottom was a fish. Good fight and finally I landed
the trout with my forfinger and thumb. Then knock
between the eyes. The trout was 46 cm. A nice fish for
supper.
The
trout took a Black and Silver Tinsel fly served just by
the bottom. With a Bead Head Pupa I caught a redeye
roach, that was all. This fishing trip with about
hundred km to drive took about two hours. Sometimes it
goes like this!

Spending sunday by rapid with very low water level. Places
to fish were very few. If there are fishes now, they are
very careful and difficult to fish. We need some rain. I
fished one hour and then I gave up. Once again NF.

Me, my mother and my son Benjamin we went to see, if
perches are now co-operative in a place were last autumn
there was a real hit on. I casted once to show to my mother,
how jigging works. First cast and she had a nice 500 g perch
and with next cast a smaller one.. I thought, we have found
a school of fishes, but we caught only some more. Then to Paraisten
Portti cafe to have icecream. On the way there I had a 200 g
pike baby. Sailing back we still tried jigging, but quiet.
Benjamin thought that grandmother is not so very good fisher,
when two jigs found themselves hanging on birches on the
beach.
We fished 10.30.-14.00 o'clock. We should have woken up
earlier to find the morning hit-time. Water temperature is
still about 16 centigrades. Next weekend I am going to fish
seriously pikes.

Knocking with jigs about twenty potential perch places.
Nowhere were rea good hitting schools. Result of working
eagerly ten hours was about fourty small perches ( the biggest
300 g). The best colors were white, yellow and green, in this
order. Nikolai caught first in the morning two baby pikes.
Heinavesi,
Kermankoski and Vihovuonne 9.-10.9.
TomiL and Jori
Trying to catch a big trout in the last day before the
protection season. Camping in tent by Vihovuonne and bombing
the rapids with flies. The waterlevel was low, so it was easy
to wade to the hot spots. We saw two bigger tailing fishes and
some smaller ones, too. Darkness silenced the place. The only
catch was one 35 cm trout, but even bigger we saw. The
local reel and rod fishermen had NF, too.
Hauho,
Vihavuodenkoski 8.9.-9.9.
TomiL and Jori
The low waterlevel made still fishing problematic. In the
upper parts and at the end of the rapid area there were
possible places to catch fishes. We heard, that two weeks ago
in upper parts there had lived a mighty trout with some
smaller ones. Now the place was empty, at least daytime. In
the end of rapids we saw some nice ids and breams. In the
evening I had two about 800g breams. Finally at about
eight o'clock I saw the first trout, but it took nothing. Then
it jumped four times and disappeared. No more happening in the
darkness so we gave up the rapid to bats. The place is fine,
even if to count fishes in the water. You can evev buy
icecream from the shopping bus, which has a stop by the rapids.

Fishing in the evening
about one hour. Very few tailing fishes, so I had fish blindly
with nymphs. Last time I had a lot of happenings with
whitefishes and no contacts with perches. Now the situation
had totally changed, now perches hit my flies, but whitefishes
not. Next trip I have tomake daytime, then perhaps the
whitefishes are active.

First weekend in long time I had free
fri-sun. Last time in Tainio we had so many happening so in
saturday I had to go there again.
My wife was driving early saturday morning. I was not able to do
it. We had a party of my working place in friday evening and we
took some whole and some half pints. In spite of my funny feelings
we were onthe road at eight o'clock. we arrived to Sysma at eleven.
The weather was really beautiful.
We fish many rapids, but the fishes
are not in the mood. I catch a small 30 cm trout and Tawny my wife
catches a school of perches. While having a break we see cars
driving by on the small gravel road so many as in Finnish Rally.
What is happening we wonder.
Then to the upper rapids. I thought
that nobody else knows this place, but when we arrive there are
already six fishermen. Not here too crowdy, so to the next place.
Soon we find these six guys leaving, so now the rapids are for us.
Tawny makes the first cast with a yellow zonker. When she is
straightening the line, a nice two kilos rainbow hits. Two nice
jumps and then it is loose. I was not so brave to give any
comments. Better so, she is anyway my chauffeur today and long way
to walk home.
We fished a while and had hits but nothing landed. By a small
island something chased bleaks every now and then. So I waded over
the river. First cast and somethig followed myfly making nice
waves on surface. Second cast and FISH ON! A short fight and I had
1,4-1,7 kilos rainbow in my net. I was wading back, when my wife
told me, that she is pissed off when she can not land fishes, only
to hold them a while.
While wading I made an inappropriate comment about women and
fishing. The revenge of fishing gods was awful, I slipped and was
swimming in ther river. About eight meters downstream I met mother
earth again and to the shore. The fish I had still in the net, but
about thousand liters water in my waders, too. Tawny tried to hold
her laugh.
Then dry clothes on and drying the
waders. The peace fell again in our family and we had room enough
to sit in the same car.
Only one rainbow today, but the nice
weather compensated all. Think, september and warm like in
summertime! I wish I have time
to make at least one more flyfishing trip this autumn...!

Fishing under the bridge from six in the morning till one in the
afternoon. Now the hit was better than yesterday. The medium of
the fishes we took was over 300 g. Now we made file about 6 kilos.
Brownish grubs served slowly on the bottom were good. When tailing
fishes were seen, glassclear grubs with red and blue glitter took
fishes in the middlewater. Osky had a perch with seven casts in
row. The results: Osku 520 g PB, Pasi 470 g PB and ktl 400 g.

One hour evening
fishing session. I saw quite many tailing fishes, but outside my
casting reach. The fishes were eating nymphs, I could see their
backfins drawing lines on the surface. Whitefishes took my tiny
nymphflies very carefully, and they were impossible to hook. So I
had 6 lost fishes and nothing landed. It was exiting to strip the
flies slowly and to see a backfin follow it and then to turn away.
That is fishing life! Fun???

When half of my trip was gone
the saldo was almost zero. The tributary of Alta river, Eibyelva,
saved my trip. First this 64 cm seatrout and then two searun

really possitive impression.
