Merikarviariver 28.-29.4.
TomiL
and Jori

Camping overnight in tent by the Rapid Puukoski. We caught even fishes quite nicely: over 40 cm rainbows were 3-1 for Jori. I caught two graylings 20-30 cm, too. The icehockey WC was perhaps so interesting, that there was a lot of room in the river area. Water temperature was +12 centigrades.

Parainen 24-25.4.
MarkkuR

Three men fishing pikes in two evenings on Tammo and  Mielisholma waters. Both places gave 4 pikes, even the biggest fishes were exactly the same  3.5 kg. We tried to fish zanders, too, but no contacts.

Sysmajarvi, Outokumpu 26.4.
HarriM

The first and the last  icefishingtrip for pikes in this winter  to the Lake Sysmajarvi in   Outokumpu. We had problems to get on ices so bride was the open water area by the shoreline. The flood had already begun, too. The lake was quite compared with last years on the old hot spots. Only one small pike game to look the sky and got immediately back to its own element. After fishing several hours we began to think, that perhaps we fish in too deep places. I drilled a couple of holes in the middle of rushes. Immediately one mr longnose hit on my lure. kalle had a nice contact too with a heavy fish, but then we had to stop fishing. The ice in the middle of rushes was so weak that feet went throug it. When we went back to lands we had to wade over the open water with boots full of water. A couple weeks forward and we can cast our spoons and wobblers into the lake.

Brando 27-28.4.
TimoK and Pietu

Fishing whittefishes on the shore of the hotel Gullvivan in two evenings. Pietu caught one ½-kg whitefish. I got some small 5-cm fish that had succeeded to eat all the worm and number 10 hook totally.

Aland, Gottbysund 28.4.
Ktl, Pete, Tawny and Pingo

Evening fishing seatrouts from 6 to 9 o´clock pm. The only happening was a following fish Pete saw.

Aland, Angosund 28.4.
Ktl, Pete, Tawny and Pingo

In the morning fishing pikes on Vidar´s private waters with flies and lures. Over ten fishes. Pingo had a 3 kg fish with Storm suspi and Tawny with Zam wobbler in color aland the biggest of the session, 7.5 kg. A lot of followers.

Aland, Hammarudda 27.4.
Ktl, Pete, Tawny, Pingo and Robert

Afternoon: Fishing with a special licence from shore in one of the best seatrout places of this area. The result of the evening was yet only many followers and eyecontacts, even if we fished in in perfect weather from 2 to 10 o´clock pm.

Aland, Gottbysund 27.4.
Ktl, Pete and Tawny

Fishing from a boat from 8 to 11 o´clock am. One lost seatrout and a couple eyecontacts with them. Tawny caught 3 ids 1.2 - 1.8 kg. Pete and Ktl had 6 pikes, the biggest a bit over two kilos.

Nautela 27.4.
PetrusG

I fished one three hour licence. I got 44 and 45 cm trouts and lost two. They have stocked the river recently.

Aland, Kungso 26.4.
Ktl, Pete and Tawny

Fishing from 10 am to 5 pm with flies and lures. Tawny had a pike and Ktl a perch. The only trout we saw was following Ktl´s lure. Sunny but cold, windy day.

Merikarviariver 25.4.
IiroO and Saku

Again fishing the river some hours. We caught 5 rainbows. A new idea we found today: leeches must have rubber legs and you have to fish with them upstreams.

Merikarviariver 24.4.
IiroO and Saku

Four hours of intensive fishing. The catch of two fishers was 12 rainbow trouts, no big  ones or seatrouts seen. Now you have to fish already with small flies.

Rymattyla 24.4.
Ktl
and PJY's  group

A day fishing pikes and learning to fish whitefishes. One pike 1,5 kg to Erkki With Abu's blue wobbler Hi-Lo, some followers and hits. You could see and hear, that pikes were spawning in rushes. All learned how to fish whitefishes, but not a fin was seen of them. Tens and tens of roaches and small perches were caught. They loved our earthworms.

Merikarvianriver 23.4.
IiroO and Mikko

Eveningfishing. We tok four rainbows up and lost many. The biggest was 68 cm, it hit on my green Zonker.

Parainen 22.4.
Jake

Fishing after the working day in the evening. Pikes were really selective. A lot of
careful bites, but only one fish visited my boat. Fishing whitefishes gave only roaches.

Nauvo 22.4.
Nikolai and Osku

A day fishing whitefishes. We caught seven fishes, of which three were over 700g. The biggest had grown up to respectable 51 cm size!

Aland week 17
Pingo

The quests of Rundbergs' holiday houses have caught this week seatrouts:5,2,  3,0,  2,8 and  2,0 kg. Overall the medium weight of seatrouts has been this year about two kilos. One group was filming tiring of a about 5 kilos trout. The fish was three times just besides the boat, but finally won and swam away. The fight is on video!  Pikefishing has been outstanding: till now has been caught 5 fishes over 10 kg.

Utsjoki, Vetsijarvi 13-15.4.
KariA
& Co

Our purpose was to find big whitefishes in the lake Vetsijarvi with the help of our local friend. We found, that the fishes have not too much room under the ice in wintertime. Mostly we drilled directly on muddy bottoms. Anyway we caught 300 - 500 g graylings and perches so many, that we could eat fish menus all three days. We had 5 baited hooks , too, and they gave in two days 8 pcs 1,5 - 5 kg pikes. That had been enough for us to eat, but we gave them to our guide. Now he can eat in summertime other fish too than salmon.

Bleeding makes the graylings to taste better.

Merikarviariver 19.4.
Nikolai and Osku

There was quite a lot of water in the river. It was fun to fish in working day, when there are not so many people as in weekends. We caught and lost fishes, too. One really big rainbow trout hit on yellow Zonker fly. The fish weighted 4,2 kg. It was my first fish from open water inthis year. A nice start of season!

Saturday: 20 pikes, the biggest  3,75 kg. Hot lures were: Zalt wobbler, Phantom jerk and modified Super Shad Rapilla. Our host got in the cottage harbour  5 whitefishes and the evening session gave to us 20 more.

Sunday: About ten pikes, the biggest fishes were about 2,5 kg. Same lures were hot as in saturday plus big shad jig.

Over ten kilos of pike coming to our boat!

We put our boat  down at noon in southern parts of Kemio waters. First we tried a white to jigfish zanders, but no contacts. Next we took lunch break and casted the whitefish baits into the water. Two hours session gave four fishes, of which the biggest was 1.1 kg. Piia was worshipping the sun and still caught her first ever baitfished whitefish! Next we tried pikes. The water was quite muddy, so we saw not a fin of pikes.

+ Santtu

We tried hard and got 2 nice whitefishes to my friend. I concentrated in pikes and seatrouts. I lost one about 3 kilos pike, which hit on shad. No signs of trouts, even if the winds had been from south all week long. The water was 6 centigrades by the shoreline and 3 centigrades in outer area.

Merikarviariver 17.4.

Winterlings, both seatrouts and salmons, have been caught since the ice was away. The water has warmed up fast from 0 to almost 10 centigrades in a week time. Winterlings are now very active and soon they swim back to the sea. There is no flood anymore. The water level is a bit lower than normally this time of the year and the water is almost clear already.

In saturday  Mika Savikko caught with fly in Puukoski rapid area a beautiful silvery searun trout  56 cm and 1,75 kg.  In Holmankoski was a searun  52 cm trout caught, too. Big ids have run into the river, too! If the water is warming up this in speed, the best season for searun fishes will be soon at its hottest and it will be over in the middle of May!

Parainen 18.4.
JakeK

The opening day of my boat season: 5 pikes, biggest 4,3 kg, and one whitefish.

Parainen, Granvik 17.4.
TimoK
+ JussiT

We spent all day on the area south of Granvik trying to fish whitefishes and a little seatrouts, too. The wind was weak and sunshine made living comfortable. We caught whitefishes, too,. Total catch was 15 fishes. The water was now clearer as two days earlier, but not yet normal.

In the afternoon we tried to drive to Gullkrona area, but our surprise was big, when we saw large icefloats sailing there. From where had these come? Arounding sound view was filled with the sounds of seabirds. There was too much noise, too. The hunters shot ducks like there was thunderstorm on.

I and some of my fishing friends went to fish whitefishes. We got quite a lot of fishes. In sunday morning I made speed record in catching a fish. I casted my bait and when I lifted my rod there was a one kilos fish hanging on. The fishing was in all the ways exotic. We stood in 20 cm water on a sand bank. The water splashed, when a school of fishes arrived and everyone run to his rod. Of course in the beginning I found a nice deeper hole and my boots were filled with cold seawater. So the coolingsystem was so good, that in rest of the day I had no problems with footsweat. First time this year we caught roaches, too. Many of the careful hits were made by these red eyed economy whitefishes. The meat of the bigger whitefishes was nicely reddish. So tomorrow I will have on my sandwiches something else as my upper lip!

Houtskar 16.4.

The catch today 22 pikes. I caught two biggest ones  6,20 and 10,29 kg fishes with Buster and Phantom jerkbaits. Janne fished in the evening 11 whitefishes.

Houtskar 15.4.
HannuR

We were on the sea at five p.m. First 8 pikes 1-4 kg with Buster jerk. Then a while fishing whitefishes: 7 pcs. Let us see what happens tomorrow?

Parainen, Granvik 13 and 14.4.
TimoK

The opening of boat and whitefish season. In the first day the weather was splendid, but perhaps it was too fun to cruise around, and I stayed not so long in one place. I burned a lot of gasoline and the baits were too short times on the bottom. The result was only one fish. There was ice here and there, but I even went through the Portti with only hundred meters of icebreaking.

In the second day the wind was heavy and blowed directly to the places, where I had planed to fish. A lot of all kind of trash was sailing with the wind, so fishing was difficult. I found two peaceful and calm passages, where I caught three whitefishes. I tried to sail through Attu passage to Peimari, but there was too much ice one kilometer east from the bridge.

Why my catch was so poor? I say that I can fish with this bottombait method. I claim, that the water was too muddy (brown). Now some algae species are blooming. In tuesday, even in the large open area  Gullkrona, you could see only under one meter into the water, in inner areas only about twenty cm. In wednesday the situation was a bit better, but only some tens of cms, That is not much compared the normal situation: 2-6 meters.

Sarkisalo 10.-12.4.
Kari S

In this weekend a fishing police was checking up, that licences are ok. Mostly everyone had payed their permits. In our group of fishers there was yet one about 50 years old fisher, who sneaked away, when he saw the police coming. It feels funny, that some people try get free tickets and even spoil their own delight of fishing, when they have to be all the time aware of licence inspectors. Buy Your licences and enjoy fishing!

P.S. In Easter time some whitefishes were caught, too. There was no need to hurry up with hits. 10 rods gave 3-5 fishes in a day. Fun was that there were about ten fishermen, too, those people fishing illegally with more than one rod are luckily away from Sarkisalo whitefish places.

Aland 13.4.
Pingo

Fishing has been a bit poor, because of the weather in holiday time. The winds have blown all the time from north. Anyway quite many saetrouts have been caught: The quests in Rundbergs' holiday houses caught 4 trouts, Nisse had  in monday 3 fishes 1, 2-3,0 kg. Jalle E had a beautiful  58 cm seatrout. One group caught two 2 kg fishes.

Pikefishing season has begun, too. Fishing from boat with large and heavy shads have given nice results in 3-6 m waters. There are daily many boats out in pike hunting. Pikefishing is ok, but when fishing every day in the same place and now before spawning time is in my opinion a doubtful fishing method. Begining in wednesday the prognosis have promised high pressure, warm temperatures and southern winds, that is a perfect seatrout weather!

Merikarviariver 11.4.
JaniO
and Markku

Fishing in Merikarviariver second day after opening (10.4.). Water level was ok. There had been a lot of people in the opening day and even in second day the hottest places were full booked, perhaps the Easter holiday was a reason. When ten fishers bomb the same pool all the time fishes probably shut their mouths. The catch is not so important for me, but some fishers complained, that there are no fishes in the river. I do not mind about those stories. It was fun to open the season and even to fight with a pretty fish. This time the finest fish was a perch. We caught two rainbow trouts, too.

and Tapsa

We went to check up the situation in Karkkila rapids. There was a lot of water flowing in the river and the color was a bit muddy. So we concentrated fishing in the smaller Saavariver. There we caught trouts 35 and 36 cm and a beautiful  49 cm trout, which saved our fishing day. All the fishes were caught with heavy Leeches.

Lapland of Sweden and Finland 10.4.
Nikola
i, Henkka, Raimo and Leo

We went icefishing to Swedish Lapland for a daytrip. From Muonio it is about 30 km to drive to the lake Pieni Valkijarvi. We had heard, that the fishes have held their mouths shut recently. Anyway in the first hole I got a heavy fish on. I got it up about one meter from the bottom, but my  mormuska equipments were too light to handle the fish with hard hands. The fish got  loose - you should have heard me swearing like a bear. After this hit there was totally quiet. I was almost desperate, when finally the rod tip nodded nicely. A fine about 40 cm grayling came onto the ice. All day long there were no other happenings in Sweden. In the evening I went to a river on our "backyard" near the cottage in Pulju. I caught in half an hour three whitefishes! Once again: Did we go fishing further than the sea???

Parainen 10.4.
HannuR
and Tuomas

The first open water trip began in a fine weather. It was frustrated, that almost all the springtime pike hot spots and whitefish places were still covered with ice. Our saldo was pikes about 1,0 jnda 1,5 kg with Zalt wobblers and some hits. We tried hard, but got no contacts with whitefishes. Once again a old archipelago proverb was true: "In the springtime the stones are hungry!" We drove by full speed on a stone. The motor jumped up. You could think, that everything is totally broken. No changes in the motor working, only a nasty fracture on the keel iron. I think it will easily be repaired.

Karkkila rapids 10.4.
TomiL

The first trip to Karkkila in this spring. Before noon fishing in Katlarapids and in the afternoon a short visit to Pitkalarapids. The water was a bit muddy, because of the high flood level. Otherwise the circumstances were ok for fishing. No fishes to make marks on my fishing diary. My catches were exercise, fresh air and four deers seen by the rapids.

Dragsfjard 10.4.
Ktl
and Reijo

Fishing some hours whitefishes on an old hot spot. The ices had went away some days earlier and the watercolor was still very disturbed. The real whitefish traffic was not yet on. Ktl caught two about 500 g fishes and both had a flounder each.

Säkylän Pyhäjärvi 9.4.
TimoK

The last icefishingtrip to find whitefishes in the Lake Pyhajarvi. I was on the ice at two p.m. and going home at eight p.m. Not a seen tail of whitefishes! I talked at least with ten other fishers and even they had not seen or caught fishes. The only observation of fishes was a shout I heard: I CAUGHT A SALMON!  Whatever that ment, there are no salmons in Pyhajarvi, perhaps a laketrout?

Before I left home I spoke with a proffs netfisherman, who has seven nets near by the area I had fished. He told that in the nets there are no whitefishes either, perhaps one or two in a week. I looked a while him working and it was true: only two perches and some roaches.

By Ristinkari sunken island I met a guy, who is even more eager icefisher than I am. He had icefished now every day in a month's time exept two days. He was still fishing even if his last whitefish was seen a week ago in saturday

The ices on the lake will soon be dangerous to move on. Now they are dark and changed into sticks, so when you drill you need to do only two or three rounds, the left goes by only pushing down. If you want to go icefishing there you have to do it in a week!

Parainen 7.4.
HannuR

I went in the evening to check up, what is the situation with ices and tried to fish whitefishes from five to half past seven p.m.  The opening fish of my open water season was nice about  700 g whitefish. In the weekend I try get my boat sailing.

Sarkisalo 3.-4.4.
KariS

Here in sarkisalo the whitefish season is on, too. Till now there have been more fishers than whitefishes, but fishes have already been caught every day. The size have been from 400 g to 1,2  kg. It is possible, that even bigger ones have been caught, but these are fishes, that I have seen. The experinced fishers tell, that the best season is just to begin.. I hope there is enough room on the shores, so that we all can enjoy fishing without linemesses and fighting about the best places.  Now the situation has been peaceful, all fishers have had gentleman manners, exept the loose lines left on the shores. Nobody makes business with fishing whitefishes, so please, enjoy fishing. More quality in fishing than quantity!

Aland 3.-4.4.
Pingo

Seatrout season goes on slpendidly, even if the winds have been nastily from north and east. Flyfishers have had quality fishing. Basie Ulenius caught with flies four seatrouts 1,5-3,0 kg! He lost two fishes, too.  Kim Egenfelt caught three trouts:  2,8, 2,1 ja 2,0 kg, he saw 3-4 fishes to follows his flies, but they were not willing ti hit. In Svino holiday village in Lumparland the guests caught in saturday three seatrouts and in sunday three more, all fishes were in two kilos class. I hope the weather gets better, so even I can enjoy seatroutfishing in Easter holiday, too. The season is now on its best!

Fights like this are now going on more and more. Martin is having a match with a trout! Photo Pingo

Parainen 3.4.
Ktl and Pena

We were the first fishers on the shore at half past six a.m. There was only a little open water made by the stream of the ferry. Minus degrees in the night had frozen most of the shallow waters. Only a few whitefishes were moving in this area. Till half past one p.m. I caught two fishes, the bigger was cleaned 620 g, and Pena had one. Fishes had empty stomachs, so they have not yet begin to eat Nereis. In all this time I saw only two more fishes caught by neigbouring fishers. My title as the fishing guide of the year 2003 changed to the great  failure of the year 2004. Pena had a huge whitefish on and tired it perfecly. We had no net with, so I tried to lift it by hands. Trying to take it with one hand was a mistake. About two kilos fish slipped and broke the leader. I wonder, why I did not had to swim? It was one of the biggest fishes I ever has seen in whitefish fishing.

This whitefish got possibility to be on my dinner table. (cleaned 620 g).

Parainen 3.4.
NikoL and Jussi

On the ice  7-11.30 a.m. Six happenings of which we got 4 up. I had four hits and caught pikes  3,0 and 2,1 kg. Jussi had old stinkers 1,8 and 1,5 kg . The hot colors of Kaimaani balance jig were tiger, blue-yellow and smelt. The hitting time was 8.30-10.00 a.m..
