Aland, Slemmern 31.8.
Pingo
and Robert

We spent a couple of hours jigging perches on Slemmern. The water was 17 centigrades, and the wind blew mildly from south. We tested several colors, but once again one was over the others:motoroil. We caught two nice pikes, too. They hit on the grubs in the middle of perch schools. Total catch was about forty perches, medium 400 g. I caught the biggest one, which was my new perchrecord 1110 g.

Rymattyla, western sea-area 30.8.
Ktl, Timo and Markku

First thing we did in the morning was to catch bleaks as baits. The morning was rainy, but luckily calm. It rained in one hour about 3 mm. Perches took time to time nicely brownish grubs baited with a slice of fish. At noon we saw the sun again and the temperature rose to 20 centigrades. The afternoon gave perches quite a good amount, again fire pumpkin colored grub was ok, but the best bait was living bleak served just on the bottom. At five p.m. we started handling our catch = we made five kilos nice files. The biggest perches were a bit over half kilo. During the day we caught over ten small pikes
, Timo hooked a kilos bream, but no signs of zanders.

Parainen 28.8.
JakeK

In saturday pike were in the hitting mood. I caught with spinner baits 6 fishes between 2-2.5 kg. One of them had to come to our supper table in form of pikeloaf. I spent several hours trying to find perches. The result was two smallies. Where are these striped delicacys now?

Teno 14.-20.8.
JakeK
and Jyrki

Tana river was quite quiet now. Jyrki flyfished two grilses, both with Royal Coachman. Finally we succeeded in harling. A mighty 4.4 kilos salmon was willing to come into our boat, so we let it do it. Mother Nature gave to us a perfect scenery to take photos.

Jake had finally possibility to hold a salmon! Harling gave to guys a good 4.4 kg fish in the last evening of the season.

Pompiainen, Lohenrengas 28.8.
Ktl, Olli, Nikolai and Jani

Three compettion level flyfishermen and ktl testing flyfishing equipments on the smaller pond, Pompiainen, of Lohenrengas put-and-take area nearby Salo. Boys fished with barbless flies and the results were excellent: jani made in about one hour  6-8 rainbows to visit his net, Olli fished about three hours and released over ten fishes and Nikolai's golden rod hand fooled in the same time 18 rainbows. The fished were in so good hitting mood, that even ktl had three fishes, but first he had to borrow a hot fly, Leech, from Nikolai and lenghten the leader long enough.  Leeches and Boobies were the best flies, specially black and white colors.

Lohenrengas is a mighty fishing place. Last time they put fishes into the ponds was in May. Then they put into Kivijarvi and  Pompiainen 200-400 g rainbows about  1000 kilos. Both pond have so good natural food for fishes, that those 400 g fishes are now about one kilo size. Two years ago they put into both ponds rainbows and trouts, which are now over two kilos monsters.

Lohenrengas 26.8.
OlliT
and Tapsa

We tested new equipments in the Lake Kivijarvi of  Lohenrengas. Two hours of  lazy fishing gave six rainbows and one 50 cm trout. We had some hits and once was the leader broken. Tapsa made his first ever double: He had  two rainbows on the flies at the same time and succeeded to net both of them.

Brando, Ava 25.8.
Ktl and Jarkko

We were under the bridge at about half past seven in the morning., and we fished to eleven a.m. Perches hunted small fishes every now and then on the surface, but not so active as in the evening, so we had to fish grubs slowly running just on the bottom. The hook needed extra attraction: a slice of stomach skin of perch. Working hard we caught so many over 250 g fishes, that we could make file a bit under four kilos. Biggest fishes were slightly over half a kilo.

This morning gave once again a receptable full of fishes to put on cleaning table.

The Gate of Pargas 24.8.
TimoK
and Joska

We spent the morning trying to find baitfishes. Finally we caught enough of them in the harbour of Granvik. The weather was nice so we headed to the Gate.  There was so much boat traffic that we had to stay on the eastern side of the fairway. We let the boat float with the wind. Bleaks as baits we caught perches in size of quater of a kilo enough to fry several times on a pan. Extra catch were some small zanders. We tried some other places, too. The result was small perches and a couple of long noses, of which the biggest was about two kilos.

If you look at Joska's face, you can read, that the perches should have been a bit bigger.

Brando, Ava  24.8.
Ktl and Jarkko

Eveningfishing in the Ava-bridge area. We caught about 50 perches over 250g - over four kilos file. And we had a nice supper: Seppo´s Perch stew on toast. Biggest fishes were again only 600 g. Ice clear grubs were working on the surface and in the middle waters and brownish on the bottom.

Jarkko handling a basic size, 300 g, of perch. Fishes were hunting on the surface, so this one took clear grub with wobble head.

Uusikaupunki sea-area 21.8.
JaniO,
Markku and Antton

Our plan was  to hunt perches with flies with my godson Antton and his father Markku. Heavy winds changed our plans, we had find calmer areas. This happened with bad success, no signs of perches. Anyway Antton had possibility to practce his casting skills. I lost one small pike and Markku caught one a bit over two kilos. We saw two sea-eagles and one fishhawk and Antton shot a couple of sailboats...

Neidenriver 16.8. - 19.8.
TomiL
and Jori

I got possibility to go fishing for one week even if I am building a new house now. Me and Jori drove up to Lapland, this time we walked seven kilometers to Neidenriver near by Finland -Norway border. We had time to fish four days, which we decided to use fishing salmons. We did not find any good grayling places in this area. There were fishes in the river, we saw them daily, but grises were unwilling to take our flies. In the last day I finally had a hit on a shrimp fly. I even succeeded to net my first ever flyfished salmon,  63cm and 2kg. Otherwise we had nice time, the views were beautiful, and no problems with mosquitos. The nights were freezinly cold.

Brandö, Ava ja Bjornholma 20.8.
Ktl, Timo and Pete

Heavy wind and high waves made fishing impossible under the Ava bridge. Timo and ktl tried in the morning to find perches in Bjornholma waters. We caught over ten perches and a bit less pikes, of which one two kilos and one kilo and half fishes we made as boneless files. Brown grubs were catching with both species. Pete flyfished on the hotel shores and caught two pikes, the other ended on the filetable.

Perches in the Bjornholma waters were basic size = about half pounders.

Brando, Ava and Bjornholma 19.8.
Ktl,  Pete, Mel and Timo

We spent the morning trying to find baitfishes. Finally we had about thirty of them, and they were very fast changed into the nice perches under the bridge. More fishes we caught with grubs and bottom baits, so again we made a bowl full of delicate files. In the evening we fished the hotel waters and caught nine pikes, biggest two kilos, and some good perches. The biggest perches of the day were almost 1½ lbs.

Vammala 18.8.
MikkoO and a group of schoolkids

The pupils of Syva-Rauma elementary school had a nature school event on Papinsaari island of Rautavesi. Our fishing club took these kids out on the lake to learn trolling. The catch of five boats was mainly pikes and perches and one pikeperch. Kimmo taught how to make files of the catch and told about the anatomy of fishes. In the evening we made food of our fishes on open fire. The biggest pike was caught by an eager fisher and weighted 1,7 kg.

Brando, Ava 18.8.
Ktl, Tawny, Pete, Mel, Timo, Timo and Antero

First two hours session in the afternoon gave us about five kilos perches. In the evening between 6 and 9 o´clock we caught over ten kilos more. We took up only fishes over 250g, the biggest was Antero´s 600g perch. Iceclear and white grubs were catching and took eagerly bottomangle baited with a piece of fish.

Nautelarapids 16.8.
JaniO

Ileveningfishing and hunting one of over 100  big searun seatrouts, which have passed the Halinen salmon stairway this summer. I thought, that some of them have already reached Nautela. last time I visited nautela I saw a huge fish to tail there. That was all fishing happenings then, but a dog bite me so that my waders are now marked with its teeth. Now there were no signs of seatrouts. The waterlevel is now so low, thar the river looks like a small brook. I caught one over 40 cm trout, but it perhaps was a local. I found a Rapala wobbler in the mouth of a nice chub. Only flyfishing is allowed in nautela, so the rapala is poacher's lure. In all ways nautela is a Natur Protection area, you can noot have dogs loose there.

Vammala, Rautavesi 14.8.
MikkoO

Suddenly in the morning I got possibility to go fishing alone. I went to the fast waters of Ellivuori. The streaming there was quite heavy, which made anchoring a bit difficult, I even lost one anchor between stones. The streams are now full of bleaks and predators hunting them. It was a nice surprise, how catching was the Nasi vertical casting jig, I caught with it many nice size of perches. In Myllyvuolle asps were hunting bleaks, I lost three fishes, all took nasi jig. All fun things must end in its time. Today I got order to go home and take care of my baby boy Niilo. I will make a new report immediately when possible, perhaps already tonight...

Northern Lapland 31.7.-7.8.
TimoK
and Markku

We choosed the river with no planning in advance. We were happily surprised, when we got there. The medium size of graylings was nice, and the fishes were very active. Timo made his new dryfly record with a 50 cm grayling, fishes over one kilo we released or put into the smoking oven daily, exept on evening, when thunderstorm hit on us. We saw no signs of fellow fishers
. It was like xmas to sit by the river alone and wait fishes to tail. You knew that nobody will ask his fishing shift like in those more populated places.

Salo, Lohenrengas, Kivijarvi 4.8
JoniS

Fishing again this small lake a couple of hours with two of my friends. This time I had to use only small wobblers, because I forgot my other lures home. I caught  2 rainbows and  2 trouts, of which the biggest was a trout 1.3kg, 49cm. The stomach of the trout was full of some kind of worm, so fishes have food a lot in this lake.

The other friend caught  7 fishes and the other had 8 fishes in a half an hour, when I took time for him. I lost about twenty fishes, the reasons were dull hooks and the line. I have to change to microfibre line and chemically sharpened hooks, so much I was pissed with lost fishes!

The weather was sunny and very warm, but it seemed, that fishes were still very active. The water must have been still quite cool. Microwobblers casted with thin lines were the hot system today.

Salo, Lohenrengas, Kivijarvi 3.8.
JoniS

I fished this lake first time. I fished from the shores from 7.30 to 9.30 p.m. Last time they had put fished into the lake was in may. I caught four rainbows and two trouts, all about one kilo. They are terrible fighters! I have never met so good sport with rainbows. And the fishes have even unbroken fins!

I lost two big fishes. The other one did not want to come up from the bottom, and I could not move it with 0,20mm line, finally it broke the line. The best lures were Leeches, but I lost my only ones to those monsters. A small Rasanen spoon was once again effective! My friend caught
4 rainbows and 3 trouts, of which the biggest was exact  1,5 kilos. We lost about ten fishes! The water temperature was only +16 centigrades, the springs cool the water. Air pressure was 1016 mBar, that was perfect, too

Salo, Merikulma, Lohenrengas  2.8.
OlliT

I testfished the new put-and-take water of  Lohenrengas in Merikulma (14 km from Salo to Teijo). There is a small pond and a small  (2,5 ha) lake,  where they have put brown and rainbow trouts already in some years. This makes this place unique, because fishes have learned to eat natural food. That is why they are not so easy to catch as in normal put-and-take waters. By the lake there is open fire places, a open shelter and a view tower. Landings make fishing easy. There is one more deep pond nearby, where they are going to put whitefishes, arctic chars and graylings. I fished about three hours and caught about ten C&R rainbows and three brownies. All fishes looked nice with unbroken fins. To take fishes with you have to pay 10 euros per kilo of rainbows and trouts17 euros per kilo. The lake takes its water from springs, so fishes should taste good even in heat weathers. I can recommend this place specially for families with children. Even an experienced flyfisher can enjoy this place testing equipments, specially dryflies!

Lohenrengas is open tueday to sunday
