Nurmes, Lokinlampi 29 - 30.5.
HarriM

Fishing rainbow trouts on the Lokinlampi bond hosted by Jorma Roininen. He had build a forth cottage on the shore, a loghouse and a bit more luxury than the old ones. On the shore there is a very good sauna, too. It is even possible to fish from the terrace of the sauna, we did so! Jorma hires boats, and fishing with baits is forbidden on this bond.

I mostly rowed with wobblers and flies on the lines. I had seven contacts with rainbows and four of them we put in the smoking oven. The biggest was 1,3 kg and others about 100 g smaller. On the bond there were other fishers, too. One boat team got nicely fishes. My next destiny is Tornioriver, where I am going to fish next two months. I have heard, that salmon are already in the river up to Pello level. It seems, that this year there will be more fishes than in two earlier years. I hope the summer will be "medium", not too warm weathers, please!

Sarkisalo 29.5.
KariS

Finally in saturday  it happened here in Sarkisalo, too.: zanders are now in bays in shallow waters.I had waited this
to happen already in two weeks. Last year zander came in 13.5., so now they are forthnight late. The fishes are nice in size, only every forth is a minor, and I use 40 cm minimum.

Askainen 31.5.
Lassi, Kauko and Mikko

The zander jigging went totally even. Everyone caught exact 17 fishes, the first fish to Lassi, the smallest to Kauko and the biggest to Lassi. Legal, over 37 cm, fishes we caught only five : Mikko 1, Kauko 1 and Lassi 3.

Aland, the Trolling Meeting 27.-30.5.
Pingo

In four days the total catch was 65 salmons, medium about 8 kg. The biggest fish, 15,76 kg, was caught by  J. Paakkönen. The winning team was from Aland and caught 5 salmon , of which the biggest was 13,9 kg. In sunday only a few boats were on the sea, and they had only some few happenings.

Next year will be the 21st time. The competition time will be from wednesday to saturday. Fishing time every day from seven a.m. to eight p.m. with free starting time. In saturday the fishing ends at six p.m. and the price-gala begins at eight.

Askainen 30.5.
HannuR
and Bude

We caught about twenty over 40 cm zanders,  the biggest was 1,2 kg. A couple of better ones were a while on lines, but we did not succeed to catch them. The best colors in grubs were chartreuse with flakes, pearlwhite with flakes and fluorescent yellow. The medium size was so small, that there is no reason to fish this area any more. Next I will fish with my sons in the waters of our holiday house. One trip to troll salmons and one to angle tenches are waiting, too.

Parainen 29.5.
JakeK

The waters of Parainen gave 7 pikes. The hit  got weaker in the same speed as the sky got clearer. Hot colors were tiger in wobblers and dead undulate in flies.

Nautelarapids 26.5.
JaniO

Eveningfishing from eight to nine thirty p.m. The river is now quite dry. Rain is needed to hold the rapids nicely fishable all summer long. Now there is no need to have heavy weighted flies in your box. I caught one 40 cm trout with a brown larva fly.

Askainen 26.5.
Ktl and Markku

We had seroius fun time session jigging zanders from four p.m. to ten in the evening. For fileting we took about 25 zanders 40 cm or over.
About the same amount we released fishes 37-40 sm. The relationship between legals and minors was now quite good: Almost every second was over 37 cm. Markku got the biggest of the session 45 cm and a bit under one kilo. Ktl had a slight moment a heavy "grandma" on.   Best colors in 5 inches grubs were old yellow and fire pumpin, normally good whites and greens worked not as good as these two.

Parainen 24.-25.5.
Ktl
, Juha, Kalle, Jari, Esko and Tuomo

We were on the sea in monday at noon. Our program was to learn jigfishing and ticling some pikes. Jigging gave seven perches, but we saw not a fin about zanders. Small pikes 1,0-1,5 kilo were caught under ten pcs, but no bigger ones wre seen or contacted. Lucky, Tuomo took a 1,2 kilois pike into the boat. It combined with perches secured our part of our supper.

In Tuesday we sailed at nine again to try to find pikes. Juha caught a kilos fish.  Kalle saved himself from NF with the biggest pike of our trip  2,6 kg. These two fishes were examples, when we studied to make boneless files of pikes. We had to finish fishing at noon.

I knew that in our homebay there are ids and perches, so I put on a thin leader and a small bead head fly. I caught nothing witj fly, so in windy condition I took spinning equipments and casted with pikespinner: a 2 kg pike, then it was time to go home.

Pernaja, Kaldo 22.5.
JuhaL and Sari-Anne

The sun was shining and the air was warm. I put only a t-shirt under my wading jacket and then to wading. I could flyfish and enjoy this nice weather only about one hour, when it started to blow and rain. Even if it was chilly and and I was trembling with cold, I decided not to give up, I had to catch a fish. Finally in a calmer place wre I had waded up to my chest I had a hit. A 800 g pike took the fly
(made by ktl). That was a nice feeling to have my first ever flyfished fish, it even felt heavy. I have learned to cast almost all line long.

Juha's first ever flyfished fish was a pike. Photo S-A

In the evening: Me and Sari-Anne went fishing by rowing. S-A rowed directly to the right place: rushes and 3,5 m water. First cast and a about
4,5 kg pike with  25g Mosca-spinner. No more fishes in this evening.

Porras, Ilmettyriver  20.5.

I tested my new flyfishing equipments and learned how to cast. I fished with colorful flies and tried to serve them in deep water, too, but no hits. Any I have learned how to take flies away from trees with one hand techniques.

Merikarviariver 22.5.
IiroO
and Kalle

We caught 11 rainbow trouts, graylings and I had a perfect, a bit dark 1,5 kg seatrout. All fishes were released! A tip to everyone: Use small flies, thin leaders and fish at nighttime. There are a lot of fishes in the river now! Our hot flies were larvas and nymphs in size 12.

The Bay of Mynamaki 22.5.
HannuR
& Reiska

We were on the sea at seven p.m. The weather was raelly nice in the first hour time, mild southern wind. After eight it turned northwestern and got faster. In the beginning of fishing I was lucky to make a nice 5,63 kg mama zander to visit our boat. Rest of the fishing was Reiska's show. The combination of color and the weight of the hook evidently was perfect, I was a total statist. The relation between legal size and minors was really poor. We caught about 20 legal over 37 cm fishes, all under one kilo. Different variations of white color worked ok.

Fishing from one pm to eight thirty. Again I had to fish with baits, when the wind blowed hard from southwest. Still two flyfishers were rowing on the lake. They had caught some rainbows. My own saldo was two lost fishes. The water had again cooled half a centigrade, it was now 11,5 grades.

Askainen 21.5.
Ktl, Anton, Roman and Dimitri

Fishing zanders from 3 pm to midnight. First the wind made jigging difficult, but in the evening it calmed down. White, yellow and green grubs were catching ones. We had over 20 fishes 40 cm and bigger, the biggest 48 cm. Neighbouring boat caught beautiful zanders with red grubs: 7.1, 4.2 and 2.9 kg. Lucky Dimitri got all the fights on video!

Nauvo, southern side 20.5.
Ktl, Anton, Roman and Dimitri

On the sea at 4 pm. Heavy wind spoiled our two hours´ whitefish session. Weights slided on the bottom and collected algae. Pike session gave nice results. At first Anton had with Zam 5.3 kg, then Ktl 5.8 kg and again Anton and Zam one almoust seven kilos. Our six-kilos weight went heavily down to the bottom of the scale. Dimitri ended the evening with 1½ kilos fish at 10 o´clock pm. Aland and parrot were the hot colors.

Anton and the pike, which weighted so much, that six kilos weight was not enough.

Parainen 20.5.
Ktl, Anton, Roman and Dimitri

Fishing in our homeharbour for two hours in the morning. Three small pikes and a nice 400 g perch with grub jigs. Angling gave small perches and even too many roaches.

Parainen 19.5.
Ktl, Anton, Roman and Dimitri

In the morning we started a roundtour in southern archipelago. Small, under 2-kg pikes hit first nicely on wobblers. Angling whitefish in Portti gave only perches and roaches. Heavy rainstorm shut the mouths of fishes and we had to go in our cottage. In the evening we jigfished some minor zanders and angled again perches and roaches. This fishingday ended at 10.30 pm.

Parainen 18.5.
Ktl, Anton, Roman and Dimitri

Taking the first heat off in the evening from 7o´clock to 10. Pikes were not in the hitting mood. Anton had three fishes in our boat, the biggest over two kilos. Zam wobbler in color candyman was hot.

Evidently the winner and the second have places in the finals. The trial was organized exellent! Pools were even and fishes were caught in every pool even during the last sessions. Mostly the catch was rainbowtrouts, but legal size graylings were caught, too. The winner caught in four session 30 rainbows. Thanks to the organizers and refrees and of course to the other competitors!

Greetings Olli, an exellent performanceloistava suoritus!

The Lake Matildanjarvi 16.5.

Fishing from noon to 8.30 pm. I had to fish once again with baits, because the wind was too heavy for boatfishing. With three licences I caught seven rainbows and lost three fishes. The water was three centigrades cooler than in last week, only 12 degrees.

Perhaps the reason of my nice catch was, that they had put fishes into the lake in thursday. Fishes were by the shores under the wind!

One of the lost fishes I missed in peculiar way: The stopper of the gliding weight, a lockswivel, broke! This has happened to me never earlier, but the first time was to come!

Houtskar 14-16.5.
HannuR
& Reiska

We caught a lot of small pikes, but the monsters were not co-operative. The hot lures were Jerk, Zalt, Nils Masters wobblers and perches as baitfishes. In most of the bay areas the color of the water was muddy, some flourishing algae perhaps? We saw some monster class pikes, but they did not hit on anything. They only swam away, when the boat was on them. In fraiday evening we caught about ten whitefishes, but the season is a bit over, so many perches and roaches we caught. In saturday we thought to use a whitefish as pike bait, when one pike hit on Reiska's whitefish hanging on the line. The pike came almost to the shoreline having the whitefish in its mouth, and another pike followed it, too!

Pomarkku, Kynasriver 13.-15.5.
TomiL
and Jori

We spent overnights in Kalle's outdoor shelter and flyfished Kukonkoski and Vaarakoski rapid areas. There seemed to be fished all over the river area, apparently the fishes put into the river for opening of the season had spread all over. We caught seven rainbow trouts (700-1400g). Hot flies were for instance a simple grey Zonker. We caught some minor graylings, too. Now the water temperature had sunken to + 13 centigrades. In thursday evening the ir temperature went under five centigrades zero, and the flyline was too stiff to run through the guides.

Brando, Torsholma 15.5.
Fishing Team 822

The result of saturday was  39 pikes of which the biggest perhaps  3 kilos. half of the day we fished underwater rocks and sunken islands. Some big fishes rose from deep waters after the wobblers, but they did not hit on them. Best lures in saturday, when the wind was calm, sun was shining and it was warm, were Zam wobbler in aland color, Nils master wobbler in 15 cm and neon colored back, big silver Professori spoon and clear green and popcorn colors of Zalt wobbler.

Some of the pikes had already spawned, some of them were still having their weddings. Pikes were not very willing to hit on lures, mostly they act to hush away the wobblers. The weather changed a lot in 3,5 days, first a beautiful, + 14 centigrades springtime day, then very foggy and heavy rainstorms and finally again nice +15 day in saturday. All together this was a nice trip, and we caught fishes even too many, only the medium size was too small.

At least lures we had enough with to show to pikes!

Pikes hit still on irritation colors.

Askainen 15.5.

In the early evening jigging three hours zanders. Heavy wind made fishing a bit difficult. About twenty fishes visited our boat, four of them will visit our frying pans, too. Yellow and white grubs were hot.

Evo, Niemisjarvet lakes 15.5.
JaniO

A fast two hours visit to these lakes  Niemisjarvet. I was lucky to have as my guide the double Finnish Champion in Flyfishing: Harri Hytonen. Harri had already caught one trout and one rainbow before I arrived. Then he started to teach to me, how to fish these lakes. The result of two hours fishing was to  Harri one pike  (30 cm) and a lost rainbow, I had one 1.5 kg pike and a perch, we both had good rainbow hits, too.

Brando, Torsholma 14.5.
Fishing Team 822

The weather was crazy in the morning: storm and heavy rain, so the saldo was only 5 pikes, the biggest 2,0 kg. We had go to the cabin and try to dry up for a couple of hours.

In the afternoon the weather cleared up, so we could again fish seriously. No big ones, but one eight kilos fish, which we lost. The total catch of the day was  51 pikes. The rushes gave no more fishes, the hot spots were by the sunken rocks.

Nautelarapids 14.5.
Ktl
, Jorma and Antti

First about one hour training the casting of flies, then one hour training how to serve the flies to fishes. No contacts. We saw over 50 nice trouts, when they put medium 1,25 kg fishes in the rapids.

Brando, Torsholma 13.5.
PeteA, Lasse and Jussi = Fishing Team 822

Perhaps the big pikes are still spawning?!? I wonder and presume so, because many of the fishes are still loaded with roes. The show of the day gave  51 pcs pikes 1,0-2,5 kg, the biggest ones were only two and half kilos. Today in friday morning the wind is nastily heavy!

Turku, a Whitefish Pond 13.5.
Ktl
and Jani

Fishing in the evening two hours. Otherwise the weather was nice, but the northern wind was chilly. Jani tested with flies, if whitefishes are co-operative. He caught over twenty small about 10 cm perches, even some doubles, but no signs of whitefishes. Ktl concentrated in photogaphy.

Brando, Torsholma 12.5.
PeteA
, Lasse and Jussi

Fishing some hours in the evening gave 66 pike, of which two we took up as supper, others were released. The pikes were mostly smallies, two biggest ones were 3,5 kg. Stop and reel technique was the only succesful method. If the lure was served only reeling, there were only following pikes. Zam suspending wobblers wre the hot lures. Jussi lost a nice pike about 8 kg.

Kemio 9.5.
JoniS

Jigfishing from the shore from one to six am. The catch was 10 zanders, of which five legal size, and 13 small perches medium 150 g and one a bit under one  kilo pike. The hit of zanders stopped like cut with a knife at three thirty , when the wind turned blowing from north. It was nice to find this kind of phenomen in real life. Water temperature was 13 centigrades.

The lake Matildanjarvi 9.5.
JoniS

Fishing from 8-11 pm. I bought three hours licence and decided to fish from shore with baits. I am not a friend of fishing with pastes, but I did not want to hire a boat so late in the evening.
At  10.10 pm I lost an about two kilos rainbow, the 0,20 mm leader broke in the knot, when the fish was almost in my net. I had another fish on, too, but lost it. How can I have this kind of bad luck? The water temperature was  15 centigrades.

Kemio 7.5.
JoniS

Jigging from the shore from six to ten pm. I caught 20 zanders, of which five were legal over 37 cm. I lost plenty fishes, the reason was perhaps my mono line, which streches too much in zander fishing. Extra catch was 10 perches, medium 300 g. Two  biggest zanders were 400 and 500 grams.

Loimaa, Loimijoki 9.5.
TomiL

The rushes are now growing to the springtime pikeplaces, so soon it will be difficult to fish them. At the same time the asp season is beginning,. When the waters clear up even the flies will be good lures. In the morning I first visited the pikeplaces and had four contacts, of which one about kilo class fish  I succeeded to land, too. Casting wobblers in the asp places gave one nice  53 cm fish. The water temperature is now already 16 centigrades.

Kemio 5.5.
JoniS

Jigfishing from the shore from five pm to ten pm. annalta jigittelyä klo 17 - 22. I caught seven zanders, of which two were over legal size 37 cm. Both of them were 42 cm, but the other was 100 g heavier, because it was female. I lost three more zanders and caught two perches, too. The water temperature is now in kemio 11 centigrades.

Aland, Hammarudda 5.5.
Ktl, Olli, Jari, Yka, Uffe, Pingo and Robert

We had time only a couple of hours  to fish in the morning, because we had hurry to the ferry. Olli and Yka waded and flyfished a shallow sandbank. Both caught with pink shrimp flies over one kilos ids. Pingo, Uffe and Tapani tried to catch whitefishes, which were not co-operative. Ids were willing to eat our worm offers. We landed and released about ten ids between one and half and two kilos. Robert concentrated on filming.

In the evening trolling from 6 to 9 o´clock. One nice 1½ kg seatrout up, one lost trout and a perch. The last hour Pingo, Olli and Yka flyfished wading. Olli caught one kilo id. Boatfishers saw a tailing school of trouts.

Aland 4.5.
Ktl, Olli, Jari, Yka and Uffe

Before noon fishing from boat all the bays and stonefields between Mockelo and Gottbysund. No signs of seatrouts. Neighbouring boat had caught 2 about 3 kilos fishes with trolling. Ktl had an id  about 1½ kg and Uffe a small pike.

Aland, Angosund 3.5.
Ktl, Olli, Jari, Yka, Pingo, Uffe and Robert

Fishing with two boats in Vidar´s private waters from 10 am to 4 o´clock pm having a short  lunch time. Over 20 pikes visited our boats. Pingo 5.4 kg and Robert 3.5 kg with Storm 6-inches shads, Olli 3.5 kg with Piketinsel fly and Ktl 7,5 kg spawned fish with Zam wobblers in color aland. The last hour we fished whitefishes. Pingo caught his first ever with this metod, 25 cm.

Brando 30.4-2.5
MarkkuR
+ co

Fifteen members of our fishing club LSUK lived in the Brando Stugby holiday village and tried to catch seatrouts and pikes. We had no signs of trouts. Even pike were in bad mood in friday and saturday. Fishes followed and pushed our wobblers and flies, but did not bite on them. Sunday was better, almost everyone (exept me) caught at least one nice pike in class 3-5 kg. Fishes were released.

In saturday we had a educating conversation about the philosophy of fishing. Fishing should be fun and enjoyable even if the catches are not many and big. One neighbouring group of fishers gave to us a advise: Why to fish on legal areas, the fishes are on private waters. These idiotics poachers had a lot of perches, whitefishes and female unspawned pikes. They had fished illegally with long nets and in illegal waters.

Orvis CC Cup in flyfishing 1. part
JaniO

There were 13 competitors in this first part of Orvis CC Cup. Everyone flyfished three sessions. On the first session only one rainbow was caught by Jouni Vyyrylainen.  In the second session was caught 12 fishes and in the third 16 pcs. So compared with normal finnish lake competttions the catch was good.
