Checking up, if old zander bays are already icecovered. There was ice 5-10 cm. We even found zanders, both caught six fishes, of which two legal size to each. Perhaps in next weekend there are more good places to go icefishing.

There was ice in front of rushes on our old hot spot about 7 cm. In the middle of the bay the ices were still too thin, and streaming passages were open. Uor catch of the day was  with  Kaimaan balance jig 18 pikes, of which  3 over 3 kilos and some fishes 2-3 kg, Most of the fishes were 0,5-1,5 kg.

Pargas, Granvik 25.11.
TimoK

I put my boat to the sea at nine a.m. and lifted it up at four p.m. The landing was icy, so without snowchains it had been impossible to lift the boat. First I sailed through the Gate to fish troutplaces in the northern beaches of Gullkrona wide waters. I fished places like Långholmen, Skagholma, Trollo and other old hot spots, but I saw not a fin of trouts. The water temperature was four and half centigrades.
In the afternoon I went a bit more into the island area, but same thing was going on: not a sign of silversides. I even thought to change the project fish to perches, but then hold my original plan anyway. So the result was NF = No Fish all day long!
Inside between the islands the water temperature was only one centigrade and some of the bays had already icecover on.
You get your boat down and up in both Granvik and the Gate, if the tires are good. In both places you have to be careful, specially when it is icy like in the afternoon it was, slippery like hog's back. It is not nice to slide back to the starting point!

After noon we had first a two hours flyfishing tutoring. Then began serious fishing. Students had learned the idea of flyfishing well. The catch was four rainbow trouts: 2,0, 1,7, 1,5 and 1,0 kg. The weather was nice and grilled sausages were tasty.

Here a bit late report of Markku's mighty seatrout:

Markku flyfished with a red streamer in Nautela, whwn a monster like in the photo hit on it. His own weight showed only to five kilos, so he had to take it to a local grocery to be weighted correctly. Clened fish without gills and entrails was 6,505 kg, so probably the total weight had been over seven kilos! Reported byTimoK

In the morning from ten o´clock to noon fishing the reef. Both Veli and Pete had two hits on flies. In the afternoon in the southern bay area no happenings. Fishing was over at 3 pm.

Eckero 10.11.

Fishing from 10 am to 5 pm. The highest wawes were almost two meters high, so the fishing was difficult. With lures we had seven contacts and five followers. Pingo caught one trout about one kilo. Ktl had a mighty fish on during five jumps.

Ktl, Veli, Mikko, Pete and Pete

On the reef at half past nine in the morning. Heavy south-west wind made fishing difficult westwards. The highest wawes were one and half meters high. On the lee side hits it was even possible to flyfish. Veli had some nice hits on flies, Pete had a monster follower, one trout on two meters and good hits. Ktl had two heavy hits, one follower and about two kilos fish on until it swam behind a stone. Back to the cottage at 5 pm.

Two hours in the evening dusk to catch seatrouts. Ktl had two hits on a Forelli spoon. The wawes were really high!

Taivassalo, Kaitainen 6.11.

and Jussi

We fished all day long  8.30-17.00 o'clock, and of course our project fish was zander. The weather was almost too calm and nice, so it was pleasant to fish in this november day, even if in the morning, when we drove to Kaitainen it was raining really heavily.

We caught zanders both with rubber and balance jigs. We could not find the color of the day, all lures, that got time to swim, caught fishes, too. Most time got brown Caterpillar jig and Forelli's blue balance jig, so they caught most fishes, too.

About hundred zanders visited our boat, we took 14 of them with us in size  40-50 cm. Some perches and small pikes hit on lures, too.

Second time in the row on fishing trip to Kaitainen we were asked our fishing licences. They even looked and messured our fishes in the ice-box. The controllers were two official fishing guards of Kustavi fishing area. They gave to boats a info bulletin of fishing in Kustavi area , too. Really a possitive thing!

and Osku

Osku game to fetch me at  5.30 in the morning !! The daytime is now so short, that you have to be an early bird, if you wish to fish at least some hours.

Our plan was first to fish zanders and then later in the evening try perches. We wondered how difficult at this time of the year it is to catch zanders with grub jigs and other plastic lures. We knew, that we are on the right places, but success game finally, when we changed from plastics to balance jigs. Kaimaani balnce jig with grub tail worked fine with colored treble hook under. We fished harling with the wind and drifting anchor.

I had left my messures home, so we had look the sizes of the fishes approximately. When we landed to home harbour, I messured the smallest of our zanders. It was 40,5 cm. No really big fishes we did not have on today. We took 11 fishes and released a lot smaller ones.

While coming home we stopped on a familiar underwater hill, where there are always fished. Even now we caught there two nice almost 5 kilos pikes and quite many nice size perches.

Aland, Hammarudda 29.10-2.11
Pingo

Nisse Haggblom fished in the canal with grub jigs and caught a 5 kilos seatrout, which was a bit dark.
Bo Tholix fished two hours in monday on Hammarudda waters. A two kilos trout hit on coastwobbler Sandgravlingen.
Nisse fished same Hammarudda waters in tuesday and had a mighty catch. First a one kilo trout, and then a fine three kilos, silvery fish. As a nice ending he caught even a one half kilos trout! A real seatrout day!

The Gate of Pargas 3.11.
Ktl,
Mikko and Timo

We fished from morning- to evening dusk. In the morning we tried to find zanders in the Gate area and both to south and to north of it. Only perches were active. Some extra catch were two pikes, which visited our boat. At noon we changed totally to perch fishing. Fishes were in crazy hit. Over 200 fishes visited our boat and  a bit over 20 pcs over 300 g perches we took with. Balance jigs were better than grub jigs. The color had no meaning, they hit on everything, that moved nicely in front of them.
