First
I
flyfished
seatrouts
with
poor
results.
Then
I
changed
to
pikeflies,
and
in
an
hour
I
caught
three
pikes
and
lost
six.
Pikes
were
really
in
fighting
mood,
so
this
session
was
fun...

We caught almost ten pikes (smallies), but Kalle made his new pike record and showed to us how fishermen do. It was a nice autumn day, almost calm, and we saw a lot of pikes hunting bleaks from the surface. ![]() The fisherman Kalle! Photo Pete Ahokas Lohenrengas

Spending
a
beautiful
autumn
day
by
the
river
with
Veli
Autti.
Rainy
autumn
had
hold
the
water
level
high,
so
the
conditions
have
been
perfect
for
sea-run
fishes
like
salmons
and
sea
trouts.
Till
now
they
have
caught
many
nice
fishes
in
the
river.
The
biggest
salmon
has
been
9,2
kg.
Jukka
Rissalo
from
Koffi
info
showed
to
us a
male
salmon
11,9
kg,
which
was
found
dead
under
the
lankoski
dam.
Water
level
is
perfect,
but
there
are
so
many
fishers,
that
trying
to
catch
searun
fishes
is
not
very
easy.
The
best
places
are
such
ones,
which
do
not
have
so
big
pressure
of
visitors.
I
and
Veli
we
fished
one
secret
place
like
that
in
the
morning.
Veli
saw
one
salmon
cruising
and
changing
its
place.
I
had
one
really
angry,.
We
tried
with
different
flies,
too,
but
did
not
succeed
to
catch
anything.
There
are
a
lot
of
rainbow
trouts
in
the
river,
too.
Some
fishers
caught
them,
but
we
were
not
lucky
enough.
We
saw,
when
a
school
of
rainbows
swam
up
to
the
rapids.
Our
saldo
was
one
minor
trout,
some
perches
and
a
lot
of
fresh
autumn
air.
If
the
water
level
holds
like
now,
there
will
be
many
fishes
and
fishers
in
the
river.
Whitefishes
are
on
the
way
to
the
river,
too...

17.10.
The
second
day
in
Pellinki
began
really
nicely.
Olli
got
a
4,3
kg
pike,
which
was
worth
of
a
bottle
of
cognac.
The
lure
was
some
Rapal,
which
we
others
had
laught
on.
The
fish
hit
in
the
middle
of
grasses
in
1-1,5
meters
depth.
A
couple
of
other
big
fishes
followed
to
the
boat,
but
did
not
hit
on
our
lures.
Some
2,5-3
kg
fishes
visited
our
boat.
The
hottest
places
were
in
the
middle
of
grasses
and
stony
shorelines.
In
the
morning
the
wind
was
mild,
and
we
caught
larger
number
of
pikes
as
yesterday.
After
noon
the
wind
rose
up
to
14-15
m/s
from
east.
All together this was a good trip. Only we had to leave just when learned the hottest spots. The best lures were once again Zam in aland and blue colors (19 and 14 cm) and Nils Masters 15 cm with neon yellow back. Our total catch in two days was 86 pikes from25cm to 4.3 kg. Once again the old proverb "big fishes with big lures" was wrong. Kimito 15.10.

All day long trying to find seatrouts. The weather forecast promised over 10 m/s winds, of which I saw not a sign, but the sea was almost calm. The waterlevel was low and even got lower to 20 cm uder normal during the day. I did not see a fin about project fishes. Only perches disturbed this fishing day every now and then. Pellinki

First in the morning we learned, which kind of equipments are needed in fishing, rods, reels and flyfishing tools. After the lunch we were on the lake all day long. Jigs and spoons got funny movements, when students trained how to cast. Some contacts we had with fishes, too, but not a fish ended to the boats. The weather was perfect autumn weather. We had a coffee break on the island Oksalo. Other boats had caught fishes, too, so we could fry perches on open fire. The rest of the day we spent in slowly running streams of Kutala. Again we lost several pikes, which opened a conversation about leaders. We caught many perches up to the boats, so supper was secured. The catch was a bit poor, but the weather compensated that. ![]() Researching the anatomy of a perch. ![]() Some pikes ended to our supper table, too. Photos Mikko Ollila Pargas

Pikefishing in perhaps the worst
possible conditions: sunny and totally mirror calm.
We caught quite many pikes, but all smallies, big ones hold their
jaws shut. We found no hot lures even, if tried all day long.
Perchfishing was really poor.
