       The Fly of February

Icefishing Shrimp

Text, photos and dressing: Ktl

A
puritan flyfisherman can have odd trebble in his hands, when the rivers are closed because they are totally ice covered. A possible medicin for this hand trebbles is to go icefishing. If your philosophy allows only fishing with flies, you still can do icefishing. Put the fly under a weight like vertical jig with short tiny chain (1 inch) or a leader (about 2 inches). For some years ago my friend Bude icefished only with this method and had nice catches.

Shrimps aare a delicacy on the menu of perches, and this fly imitates shrimps. Perches can be so envious, that they even steal their food from neighbours, even the vomiting disapear in other perches stomachs. The acids in stomach change the color of shrims in orange, perhaps that is why orange Shrimp fly is good. Other good colors  are white, pink and dirty green and brown.

Base the shank to the middle of the bend. Tie the whiskers of fox wind hair. Fasten a 2 mm strip of Thin Skin.

Burn the eyes of monoline. Put the line in tweezers and burn to the both ends a ball. If needed color them black with water proof marker.

Dub the front body of marabou. Turn the Thin Skin as forhead shield.

Fasten a golden, thin wire in back of the front body. Dub the back body with marabou. Fasten the backshield. Turn the wire on its place.
