Lesson 10: BASIC DRY FLY

perus.jpg (3585 bytes)

This fly imitates Ephemera subimagos and adults. It works fine in fishing, when fishes are eating Dipteras like mosquitos, too. By changing colorcombinations and size this is good basic dry fly for many different situations of fishing.

Dressing:

Hook: Dry #10-16
Tail: Stiff cockherls
Rib: Fine wire or monofil line
Backbody: Dryfly dubbing
Hackle: Cockfeather

perus1.jpg (7102 bytes)
Base the shank. Tie the tail with stiff cockherls. The lenghth is the length of body. Fasten the rib.

perus2.jpg (8720 bytes)
Dub the backbody 2/3 of the shank. Tie the rib.

perus3.jpg (8516 bytes)
Fasten the cockfeather just in back of the eye. Turn the thread to the front of the backbody. The right length of the hackle is 1,5x the gap.

perus4.jpg (7788 bytes)
Tie the hackle. Turn the feather with side-by side turns to the backbody.

perus5.jpg (9140 bytes)
Turn the thread forward so, that the turns cross the hackle. Make some sawing movements to avoid spoiling the hackle.
