Lesson 11: NALLE
PUH

The father of Nalle Puh (Winnie the Pooh) was Mr. Simo Lumme. He wanted
to develop at the end of 60s a fly, with which is possible to fish in finnish
streams. He needed a dryfly, which floats even on a fast currents, so he tyed the nowadays
finnish national fly: Nalle Puh. Today there is a whole family of Nalle Puh flies: Dark
Puh, Honey Puh etc. There is two basic rules in tying the Puh: The place of the wing and
that the bodyhackle is a bit shorter than fronthackle.
Dressing (original by Mr. Simo Lumme):
Hook: #6-12 eye down (2X)
Thread: Orange
Wings: Brown bear hairs
Rib: Fine gold wire
Body: Mixture of hairs: 25% orange, 25% yellow and 50%
light brown hare
Bodyhackle: Red game cock
Fronthackle: 1-3 red game cock

Tie a bunch of brown bear hair or artificial hair as a wing on the shank.
The place is ¼ from the eye.

Fasten the wire and dub the backbody.

Fasten the bodyhackle.

Tie the bodyhackle and fasten it with the rib.

Divide the wing in two with 8-movements of the thread. Dub lightly the base
of the frontbody. Lift the wings upwards with dubbing.

Fasten the hackle behind the eye. Turn the thread in front of the backbody.
Turn the hackle backwards. Fasten it with crossing turns of the thread.
